<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If nothing else, Jackson will take over one of the NBA's youngest teams. The average age on the Lakers' roster opening night will be barely 25, with only five players still around from the team Jackson coached and chronicled two seasons ago. Jackson likened the situation to the one he encountered his first season in Chicago in 1989-90, when the Bulls had three first-round draft picks (Stacey King, B.J. Armstrong and Jeff Sanders) on the roster. That team advanced to the conference finals. "I would anticipate that I will be much more of a proactive coach," Jackson said. No Jackson team has failed to make the playoffs, but he acknowledged the Lakers have a long way to go after finishing 34-48 last season. Jackson said he expected that team to win 44 or 45 games and said this year's team should finish around that. "I don't know what is realistic," said Jackson, who has won nine championships and never had a team finish worse than 47-35. "I saw a projection of 40 wins. I don't think you can make the playoffs with 40 wins in this conference. "I think to get there a team's going to have to win 45, 46 games. That's all I'm willing to project, that we want to make the playoffs. That's what we're aiming to do." The Lakers finished 11 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot last season, although owner Jerry Buss told reporters in May, "Anything less than making the second or third round of the playoffs would be disappointing to me." Jackson said the play of center Kwame Brown, acquired from Washington in a trade for Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins, "could be the difference between whether we're going to be a good team or whether we can be a really good team." And Jackson added that he asked Scottie Pippen to come to training camp to work as a coach with forward Lamar Odom in the triangle offense. </div> Source
Yea, I think Lamar has a very similar playing style to help Odom develop better as a player. Both of them play SF, and have range, but can also drive to the hoop with good passing ability. While Lamar was an excellent defender, while I think Odom probably struggles when playing against shorter SFs.

I think you ment Scottie Pippen when you said Lamar. Anyway, I think it's great that they bring in Pippen to teach Lamar, I think it will help Odoms skills immensly, and make him understand the triangle offense better.
