http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...local_products/ Golden State Signs Two Local Products 29th September, 2005 - 4:36 pm Warriors Press Release - The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent guards Aaron Miles and Ray Young, free agent forward Justin Davis and free agent center Deji Akindele, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not announced. Miles, 22, played the last four seasons at the University of Kansas, finishing his collegiate career ranked eighth on the NCAA?s all-time assist list with 954 total assists. The 6-4 guard averaged 9.3 points and 7.2 assists per game in 2004-05 as a senior. Young, 25, was a member of the Warriors? 2005 Summer League team, where the UCLA product averaged 7.8 points per contest in four games. The 6-4 guard is a native of Oakland and attended St. Joseph?s Notre Dame High School in Alameda. Davis, 24, played four seasons at Stanford under Warriors head coach Mike Montgomery. As a senior in 2003-04, the 6-9 center averaged 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds while helping lead the Cardinal to a 30-2 record. Davis, a Berkeley native who also attended St. Joseph?s Notre Dame High School in Alameda, played professionally this past season in Greece. Here is another tidbit from your intrepid news hound montay.
here is a little on Deji Akindele: Deji Akindele Center (Rank: #9) | 7-0, 240 | Age: 22 Chicago St (Lagos, Nigeria ) Summary: He laid a pretty big egg at the Chicago predraft camp during the games, but showed enough in the drills for a team to take a flyer on him in the second. Has great size, strength and athleticism, but he's a big-time project. He was projected to go anywhere from 40-52 in the last draft. He was not drafted, I am assuming from his poor workout.
I like that we can officially stash a couple players in the NBDL now. Mullin and Higgens have a good eye for talent. Even if we don't keep them all each year, they may end up tradeable later if they find spaces. It's a pseudo AAA program. I actually wish they'd expand it to a full blown minor league club-style league. So many of these kids are too fundamentally unsound or physically too small to play in the NBA, and have incredible talent. Normally they'd jump to NCAA hoops, but I think some of them would be better served earning their stripes in the "minors"
Thanks for the news Montay. I'm still the most excited about Aaron Miles, I love his court vision and defense and I can see him becoming a solid player in the mold of Brevin Knight. Akindele seems pretty lazy and raw. I doubt he ever makes it to the NBA unless he makes some major strides in the D-League, his athleticism and height are exciting none the less. Ray Young just isnt good enough to play in the NBA, he could be a good D-Leaguer after his solid performance in the summer league but nothing more. I dont know much about Justin Davis, from his stats he seems like a good rebounder but nothing spectacular. So I guess we gave these guys contracts, not just trainging camp invites? I was wondering who we were going to send to the D-League, I think this is a good bunch to send. Miles and maybe Davis have a shot at making the team (in fact I believe we've still got 2 roster spaces) but Young and Akindele are highly unlikely.
Justin Davis had a lot talent but he was always injured at Stanford. I don't think he's a legit 6' 9" though. I can't figure who goes to the D league. Although Akindele and Davis seem the most likely. Maybe we go like this: BDiddy DFish Monta Miles (?) Richardson Pietrus Cheaney Dunleavy Cabarkaba Murphy Diogu Taft Foyle Biedrins Akindele (?)

I watch a lot of Stanford basketball and Davis was very good. If he can stay healthy I think he can do something in the association.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Scоtt:</div><div class="quote_post">I watch a lot of Stanford basketball and Davis was very good. Perimiter player, interior player, defender, offense-only?
Power Forward. He's not much of a shooter, although he usually hits the shots that he does take. Almost all his scoring came inside, posting-up and second chance points. He's a strong rebounder and solid defender. Good athleticism, decent speed, very smart player, but he had a lot of injuries.
He's a power player. I'd guess size wise he's close to Ike, maybe slightly taller, definitely has a man's body. He ran the floor real well when he was healthy and was hellacious on the boards. He seems to be injury prone, whatever that means. When Stanford got him he was gonna be the big strong brute around the basket. He was pretty highly touted outa high school. For some reason I remember him going to St Joe's which produced Jason Kid and Ray Young.
Davis was a pogo stick in college. He's probably 6'8", good rebounder, not much offense. Good defender, very atheletic, can probably guard some bigger threes, as well as fours. Injury prone while at Stanford. Not a bad guy to have on the roster to guard big threes, rebound, and run the floor, so Baron can get him some ooops!
Thanks Montay for the news. This is good in the event that we do a trade involving a "starting center" or a backup point, or if those two positions get injured. Then we wouldn't be as screwed if we've got replacements lined up. We've got two guards (one defensive, playmaking pure point guard, another a combo guard like a Derek Fisher repeat only he can dunk and doesn't shoot as well as Dfish). This is great in case something happens to Fisher, Ellis, Baron Davis, or Pietrus. Then we also got two big men in case Foyle, Taft, Diogu, Murphy, Biedrins get hurt or aren't ready to produce. Say goodbye to the 5 day contract, I guess. Akindele sounds like a Foyle repeat without the heart or work ethic. From what I get, he's a guy that plays smaller than he is, has questionable heart, has pretty bad hands, no finesse, doesn't understand his role on offense, doesn't finish much, doesn't work hard, bad free throw shooter, bad decision maker. But, I guess since he's athletic for a guy 6'11", he's got some upside if ever fixes all those things wrong with his game. About all this guy can do it seems is dunk and block shots. http://www.draftexpress.com/viewprofile.php?p=374 http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=2179...ov=st&type=lgns http://cbs.sportsline.com/nba/players/draft/555471 I guess people who know NCAA ball know Aaron Miles. What a solid pickup in terms of role players. Defense, playmaking, lateral quickness, no reliable long range shot, no killer instinct or real offensive game though. http://www.draftexpress.com/viewprofile.php?p=73 Ray Young, to me, looked pretty much like a strong Joesph Forte type player only better defense. I'm sure he can help us score, but like the other rookies, I haven't seen enough of him now to see how good of an all-around off guard or a combo guard he is. During summer league he looked like a 3rd option behind Montay and Diogu, so it looked like he was playing the role Assistant Coach Higgins assigned to him since Montay and Diogu were the go-to guys. Young would connect on a few shots from outside off dribble penetration kickout passes or out of the post. He also nailed a few from the top of the key, off the curl or from behind a screen. His role on the SL team was a catch and shoot guy. He could connect on some difficult shots and then he would go cold for some stretches. Didn't really stand out to me, but I guess the guy has a good head on his shoulders and maybe he can live up to some of the hype he had coming out of high school. Whatever happend to Sean Banks, Romain Sato, Keith Langford, Ricky Shields or John Gilchrist? I thought those guys were some interesting prospects for undrafted two guards. Justin Davis is pretty solid, has some post game, good rebounder, very athletic, can drive the ball some, can shoot the turn around midrange jumper. Could be a decent inside scorer as a role player in the NBA if he's stronger than his size indicates and if his injuries haven't limited his mobility. At his size, though, the West might be tough. But he's got some solid big man skills. But it's all about the matchups. I think his role will be to rebound the ball, pretty much. He's not going to be anything like Diogu's scoring.
Any news for me is good news right now. I am excited about the athletes we picked up, their size, and the assists Miles piled up...
Well, let's see if any of them will last after the training camp. Since they are all rookies, I don't think their contracts are guranteed, and if they don't show any solid promise in training camp, they can very well be waived just to save couple dollars. Or, this can be a new trend after new CBA; stockpiling young talents and stick them to NBDL...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Montay:</div><div class="quote_post">Hey CR2, I just noticed something kinda funny. You spelled Monta's name like mine montay </div> I know, maybe the real Monta should follow in your shining example. How the hecks are we supposed to tell if the 'a' is a long vowel or not? It looks like it's pronounced "Montah". Pretty strange wa to spell if it if you ask me.

I guess maybe it's because they're being observed closely by the club rather than having to try and be some star on some foreign team to get attention. It might be cool just to get another Brian Cardinal hustle player that can score at a good time and save/get back a posession or two.
We have got to stand by our local talant. Im proud that guys from around the way can actually rep the city that they are from. Its every players dream to play for their home Team. Go GS!

Haha, I was freakin about Pietrus and future payroll. I didn't see the last sentence until I clicked on reply. You got me CR2. Something like this is probably gonna happen.
