Maurice Taylor, the Timberwolves owner, said it is NOT true that they ever intended of signing and trading Spree. Does this make the Lakers still have a chance of acquiring him?

As long as the Lakers have the $2.5Million they have a chance. Sprewell's options get worse the longer he waits, and the Lakers have no reason to panic.

Absolutely! He is exactly what the Lakers need at this point. He won't make or break the team, but he gives them a better chance at making it to the post-season, and I'm all for that. Sprewell can still put the ball in the basket, and can create his own shot. He can score from anywhere on the court, and will keep his man honest on defense. If a player cheats off him, Sprewell is going to make them pay every time. I cannot say that confidently about Devean George or Aaron McKie. Sprewell is also better on defense than any other SF on the roster, and would probably be the second best guard/forward on the team after Kobe Bryant.

Having him sign for only $2.5Million will also keep Sprewell's split personality in check. He knows he has to have a productive season to get a better deal later on, and at only $2.5Million the Lakers won't hesistate to waive him if he acts up. If he was making $7 or $8Million a year, it's a little more difficult to tell him to take a walk.
