A league source confirmed Friday that Kapono is close to signing an offer sheet with the Heat. That same source said it's highly unlikely the Bobcats would match that offer sheet, with Kareem Rush, Matt Carroll and Bogans all available to play shooting guard.</div>

Another solid piece to the Miami Heat roster. Kapono is a lights out shooter from the perimeter, and is great off the catch and shoot. There's a lot to be desired from him defensively, but he makes up for Damon Jones shooting. I'm curious to find out how much he signed for, and if the Heat plan on using their MLE on anyone else.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Heat on Friday was working on an offer to Charlotte restricted free-agent forward Jason Kapono, an offer the Bobcats are not expected to match.

Kapono finished 13th in the league in three-point shooting last season. The Heat is one of only five teams without a player on its roster who finished in the Top 50 in 3-point percentage last season.

While NBA rules allow a team seven days to match an offer sheet, that restriction can by bypassed by mutual agreement. With the Heat to open training camp Tuesday at AmericanAirlines Arena, such an anticipated courtesy by the Bobcats would allow Kapono to immediately join his new teammates.</div>

My bet, just based on my limited knowledge of Bernie Bickerstaff and the team he likes to run, I'd be willing to bet they go ahead and let Kapono join the Heat (without a 7 day wait). It would be good for their relationship with the Heat. Always thinking ahead, that's the Bobcats.

Good luck to Kapono. He's a good shooter, but that's about it. He's the definition of a specialist.

Kapono is 3 if I'm not mistaken but he plays SG as well, but if you have Posey and Walker already duking it out for the spot at 3 one of them is going to get the nod over Kapono so I doubt he'll get much playing time. I thought the Heat thought highly of Dorell Wright? But bringin in Kapono will hinder his development.

It's true, adding Kapono will hinder his development, but the Heat are not a team looking to rebuild and develop their younger players. They are focused on winning championships and will sacrifice Wright's development to win rings. It will be interesting to see how Dorrell Wright responds to this. If he's about winning then he's going to continue to work hard, and be ready to help out the Heat when the opportunity arises. If he's about launching his own career and feeling disrespected, then he might be sent down the the D-League. The last thing the Heat want on their team is a player sulking on the bench. I think Dorrell Wright understands the situation, and I think he will accept whatever role the Heat have planned for him. He has been given the opportunity to work his way into the rotation, but he underachieved in the Summer League this year. His last chance will be in training camp and the pre-season games. However, the Heat had to get insurance in case Wright isn't ready to contribute and Kapono provides insurance for them.

Next year will decide Wright's future in the league. James Posey will likely opt out of his contract and Wright will have the chance to win the starting job.
