<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Heading into this season, which begins with training camp Tuesday at Duke University in Durham, N.C., King?s optimism seems genuine. For one, he landed Maurice Cheek, the coach he wanted two years ago but couldn?t get. Despite modest offseason moves, King is fairly satisfied the team he?s assembled can compete with the top clubs in the Eastern Conference. While Miami added a slew of free agents, and New Jersey made moves to improve as well, King thinks his team is pretty close. "New Jersey, they got three great perimeter players," King said. "But it takes more than perimeter players to win. Miami, I thought they were a great team last year. They revamped and went more offense, with Jason (Williams) and Antoine (Walker). It?s going to be interesting to see how that (plays out). Detroit, I think, is the team to beat in the East. "I think our guys -- this is our third year for Kyle (Korver), second year for Andre (Iguodala), fifth year for Sam. Having the playoff experience, they know what it?s like to get there." King is also confident that having Webber in training camp will make a difference, and he?s optimistic Webber?s knee is improving.</div> link: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=..._id=18170&rfi=6 it is a good thing when our GM is optimistic about this team. this is probably the best off season we have had in a while, and i just cant help but think that this team is going to do something special this season.
I think Billy King has done all he can within his power to put this roster in the best situation possible to win. However, while doing so he has also put his job on the line with signing Korver and SD to such long deals. It is do or die for the 76ers this year, and if they don?t do Billy King will be the one who dies (losing his job). If Webber is truly healthy we will win the division I think the only competition is the Nets and their front court is still very weak since they did not get Shareef. I think we will be fighting for the division title until the last week. The east is very deep this year so we will have to have a good record of at least six games over .500 to simply make the playoffs should we lose the division.
In all my years of following NBA basketball I have never heard a GM say "I expect to lose 50 games this season", thus I am not surprised by this. Like BKS said, BK did everything in his power to get this team to the promise land now all they have to do is get there.

Saying your team won't win 33 games is pretty much saying they'll lose 50. As for King, nice to see the optimism, but I don't see them finishing higher than the 7th seed.
over-optimism I think you guys might have your hopes set a litte-bit too high for the upcoming season. They have a good (not great) starting lineup with AI, Korver, AI, Webber and Dalembert but virtually NO bench. Their bench is John Salmons and Lee Nailon. What will they do when someone goes down with an injury? Injuries are inevitable and this team won't be able to bounce back from losing any of their starters. Webber and Iverson have averaged missing a combined 45 games per season over the last 5 years.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting phila:</div><div class="quote_post">it is a good thing when our GM is optimistic about this team.</div> Obviously he'd say something positive - no one says "We're really gonna suck this year!" I know that Philly fans shouldn't be getting all that excited just yet - Outside of Salmons the Sixers have an all-around weak bench. Webber will probably miss a few more games this year, as he's growing older and older. As he gets older he'll probably need more rest too, relying more and more on good bench support - which Philly doesn't really have to offer. I'm not expecting great things out of Philadelphia this year, neither should Sixers fans.

You made an irrelevant argument to escape the point that the Sixers will most likely be a .500 team AT BEST.

I am the one that has formulated an argument and actually made points instead of first going off topic and then resorting to accusations but avoiding the point. Explain to me this: How will the Sixers improve on last year's 43 win season? How are they better? They certainly were not a better team after Webber came, going 5-5 after the trade against playoff teams. Webber and Iverson are aging and injury prone, they won't have Willie Green for AT LEAST half of the season, they got rid of Aaron McKie and they have no bench. Please explain how they wont be a worse team then last year.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Terminator-X:</div><div class="quote_post">Larry Brown does`nt need to say it evryone knows the knicks suck bigtime</div> Did I say anything about the Knicks being better? Someone's insecure.

They finished three games over .500(they?re highest all season long) with Webber on the team. And remember Webber was playing the worst ball of his career which was only holding the team back and again still finished at .500. So in a way despite his struggles the team was better as weird as it may sound, why? Well because they were winning and that's the bottom line. So ask yourself this, how well would the 76ers have done if he C-Webb was actually playing well? People weren't ranking them so high for no reason when the trade happened. But now all of a sudden teams like the Bucks, Cavs, Nets and Knicks make major personnel moves the Sixers are now being overlooked because the C-Webb trade is old news plus he wasn't performing up to par. I honestly don't want to have a 5 page war about theoretical statements but logically the 76res should do well and if you don't agree, oh well. Btw, Aaron McKie did nothing production wise. You said we have no bench, well here?s a newsflash for ya, we NEVER had a bench. However bringing in size and athleticism with Hunter, Gai and Randholp plus the minutes Salmons will get it made us better in that area. We?re still not great but the bench has quietly improve from a young, strong, quick group of guys opposed to old, slow and un-athletic guys like McKie and Jackson.
Wow. Give me a break; I'd think you guys know that a team cannot perform at its highest peak when it?s a brand new team. For goodness sakes, you cannot form chemistry within a new team in weeks and expect satisfactory results. Yet, the 76ers did actually do better with Webber than without Webber. Then you ask how they get better? I'll tell you how, they are going to have a lot of time to get better. You say the only bench they have is Lee Nailion and Salmons. I guess some how you forgot to mention Steven Hunter, who was an ok backup for Phoenix. Yes AI is aging, but he has not shown any indication that he is going to slow down any time soon so what is your point? There are plenty of stars who have been productive in their 30's. Just because AI is aging doesn't mean he is going to slow down. People weren't expecting MJ to slow down at age 30 yet a lot of people think just because AI is "aging" that is somehow a negative thing. IN this case I don't even think him getting older is a negative thing. You get better with age right? They got rid of Aaron Mckie? Mckie was not even productive for the bench last season. Go ahead and think what you think, the 76ers have barely improved right. But you have to look past paper and look in terms of what really happened. The 76ers were one game away from winning the sixth seed and I already think they can do better than that this year. If you don't think they can improve then, get ready to be proved wrong, because once this team gels than they will be a not only good team but an improved team.
