<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Trade talks regarding Eddy Curry have come to a screeching halt.

The Bulls made inquiries throughout the league, but the New York Knicks were left as the only real contender Saturday.

The Knicks are offering Tim Thomas and Michael Sweetney in a sign-and-trade for Curry. The Bulls asked New York to include 6-foot-9 rookie power forward David Lee, a late first-round draft pick in June, but the Knicks have so far refused, according to a Bulls source.

A deadline for Curry to accept the one-year qualifying offer worth $5.14 million was extended by the league from Saturday to Monday at 11:59 p.m.

The Bulls have asked that the deadline be extended further, so now it?s up to Curry to decide whether he wants to sign the qualifying offer or sit tight while the Bulls try to work out a trade. Training camp opens across the NBA on Tuesday.

If Curry signs the qualifying offer, he would become an unrestricted free agent next summer, but he could not be traded for three months.

The Bulls want Curry to take a DNA test to determine if he is at risk for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal heart condition, before he practices with the team. The Knicks reportedly would not request genetic testing, which is why Curry?s camp is pushing for a trade.

It?s unclear which players the Bulls would include to make a trade with New York work or how much money the Knicks are willing to pay Curry. The Bulls would likely add veteran shooting guard Eric Piatkowski to any deal, but more salaries would be needed to make the trade legal.</div>
