I think they will and they rightfully should, he put the team on the map.

Most hall of famers have their numbers retired by any team they play for. George Gervin had his number retired by the Bulls despite making his legacy as a Spur; Wilt had his number retired by Los Angeles although he won a title there the best days of his career where with the 76ers. Yes Shaquille?s number will be retired. I doubt Penny?s will though because although he was great for the first four seasons of his career he did not keep it going should he have played at the level he did early in his career, for his entire career, he would have had his number retired. The difference between why Shaq will get his number retired and why Penny won?t is that Shaq is arguably the most dominate force ever to play the game, mean while Penny is just a nice guy.

They should. Shaq was great for us, even though we didn't win a championship.

He'll most likely have it retired, even though he left on really bad terms and also only played four seasons with us. I don't see it being something that happens right after he retires, but something that'll happen either a. when he buys the team, or b. 10 years from now when he's a hall of fame legend and the Magic want to honor their past.

I was thinking the same thing too, but he played good for the just the Magic so maybe just the Magic will retire his number. But he was #1 with the Magic and we all know that the other #1 will have his number retired.

Shaq was really the first superstar the Magic had and that really put us on the map and paved the way for our future. I would say we definently retire Shaq's jersey because without him, we might not be where we are today.

During the Maigc 25th Anniv. they will prob retire it. That would be good timing as well as provide some added exposure to the team.
