<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Just moments after Antonio Davis reflected thoughtfully Monday on the sign-and-trade deal that will send Eddy Curry to the Knicks, Davis had to stomach some unsettling news. He's being shipped to New York with Curry in exchange for power forward Michael Sweetney, small forward Tim Thomas, guard Jermaine Jackson, a first-round and two second-round draft picks. Davis found out about his own departure shortly after the Bulls' media-day gathering?less than 24 hours before the start of training-camp workouts. "I don't know what to say about it right now," Davis said when reached on his cellular phone. "I'm talking to my agent right now." Davis may not be gone long. The teams apparently have an agreement that the Knicks will release Davis and he will return to the Bulls later this month. Davis, who stands to make $13.9 million this season, is in the last year of his deal.</div> <div align="center">Source</div>
umm didnt the NBA make a rule about trading players and they getting released to get re-signed by their old team. Similar to the Antoine Walker/Gary Payton deal.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting I-Miss-MJ:</div><div class="quote_post">umm didnt the NBA make a rule about trading players and they getting released to get re-signed by their old team. Similar to the Antoine Walker/Gary Payton deal.</div> Only rule that I know of pertains to the amnesty rules which state should you waive a player by those rules that player can not resign with his former team until the length of the contract has ended. So Davis is clear to return to Chicago if he is waived should that happen this trade is a clean sweep for the bulls the only thing I?m really struggling with is us trading Davis.
^^ i'm pretty sure he is correct about that, i think what the original poster was thinking about was how there was a threat that the nba might interviene somehow after the gary payton incident was so obvious, yet as far as i know nothing was changed with the new labor agreement
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">While it maybe done, the Blockbuster trade that brought Eddy Curry to the Knicks has many varying parts being reported involved by the Media. Similar to what Boston did with Gary Payton last year, the Bulls initially wanted the Knicks to waive veteran big-man Antonio Davis so they could re-sign him. But the Knicks may now want to keep Davis. The trade will not only bolster the Knicks' frontcourt, it will unclog the glut at several positions, mainly the Foward-spot. With Tim Thomas gone, the Knicks can install Quentin Richardson, a new acquisition, as the starting small forward. Crawford, who could have been bumped from the starting lineup by Richardson, will probably remain as the starting shooting guard. The Knicks also have Trevor Ariza, Allan Houston and Penny Hardaway to play those two positions. Sweetney had the inside track to start at power forward. That job now could go to Davis, Maurice Taylor or Malik Rose. Jerome James, who was signed to a five-year, $30 million deal in July to start at center, could become a well-paid backup to Curry.</div> RealGM
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Thomas also denied reports that he has agreed to waive Davis to allow him to eventually return to the Bulls. Davis told the Sun-Times he is considering retiring. ''I don't know where those reports came from, but we intend to keep him,'' Thomas said. ''I've already had positive talks with him. His skill, knowledge and leadership would be valuable to us. And I don't think he wants to walk away from all that money.'' Davis, 37 and president of the NBA players union, is in the last year of a contract scheduled to pay him $13.1 million this season. He could not be reached for comment. In New York, Curry will get a fresh start to disprove years of criticism that he lacks discipline and toughness, can't play defense and waited until his contract year last season to finally get in shape and play his best ball. Thomas, who failed to acquire Curry in a trade last summer, did not let those disparaging reports discourage him from trying again.</div> <div align="center">Source</div>
Davis can be a very good asset to the knicks. He adds more size to the PF position and his numbers are dramatically decreasing. 6'9 245 and he can still average around 8 pts and and 6 rebounds can really help out the knicks. Im not in favor of the player choosing his own destination. If he's traded to a team then he should go to the team. Jim Jackson did the same thing by refusing to go to NO after he was traded for Wesley. Its unfair for the teams who give up a player and get nothing in return.
I don't think that Knicks release him. They didn't release Tim Thomas or Malik Rose,Allan Houston. They relased a guy who was going to retire and his salary would've come off the cap.I belive Davis will stay in NY and Larry Brown will use him as a starter.
WOW, I wouldnt go that far. We need a younger player who can produce more at PF. This point I have no Idea its going 2 be. But I think LB would start Rose over Davis instead.
