http://www.nba.com/sonics/news/evans051004.html good job by rick sund he managed to keep the core pretty well considering the amount off free agents he had to sing i think hes done pretty well.
Good signing. If they lost Evans, not only would Seattle have lost one of the top rebounders in the game, but one of the best defenders at the PF position also. Overall, I'd say they did pretty well in the offseason considering many of their players were free agents. Too bad they couldn't re-sign Daniels or the league's richest back up in NBA history.
very good signing...hes one of the few Sonics who actually rebounds and plays defense ... (jk sonics fans)...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Sir Desmond:</div><div class="quote_post">Just the one year qualifying offer, as expected.</div> Exactly, after David Locke mentioned on his website I believe that Reggie was rumored to have been offered a 2 year deal for 5 million. Thats not too much to leave on the table for a guy who will get interest next offseason as long as he doesn't get injured this year. My guess is that insurance policies will be taken out to cover him in case it happens, if his advisors have a clue that is. Obviously good news for the Sonics - I don't particularly want Rad starting, but at least with Reggie around he'll have to earn the spot. Source Way premature, but we could conceivably lose both Rad and Reggie next offseason, and while I think Collison will be ready to start by then for sure - it doesn't help to go from being relatively deep at the posistion (at least having alot of options) to relatively thin.
Talking about the competition for Starting PF between Rad and Reg,this little gem was in the paper today. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Seattle Times:</div><div class="quote_post">Whoever loses the competition likely will fall behind reserves Nick Collison and Danny Fortson and out of the rotation.</div> Wow. That makes things interesting.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Odde24:</div><div class="quote_post">Talking about the competition for Starting PF between Rad and Reg,this little gem was in the paper today. Wow. That makes things interesting.</div> Thats only speculation...I personally dont believe it. Although I think both..especially Evans will receive less minutes this year.
This signing comes at the expense of losing O.T. How messed up is it that Omar Thomas has been working out in order to be ready for training camp and he gets cut before he even has a chance to make it on the court? So he hasn't played in a summer league game, or been in training camp, and has probably seen many lucrative deals overseas go by the wasteside. I feel for the kid and I hope he's able to get his career jumpstarted soon, preferably across the ocean. Next year's offseason will be much more interesting than this offseason considering that their will be possibly 5 unrestricted free agents available--and I'm guessing that there is no way that 3 of them will be returning. The job of a GM never ends. Slick Rick has some interesting decisions ahead of him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting M_Cage89:</div><div class="quote_post">Exactly, after David Locke mentioned on his website I believe that Reggie was rumored to have been offered a 2 year deal for 5 million.</div> Also a three year deal at around 10 million.
Huh? Nate told Reggie not to shoot?? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/spor...209_soni07.html <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">But that's not because his shot has disappeared. Within McMillan's strict system, Evans said he was told not to shoot. His face twists face in disbelief when told McMillan claimed he never restricted a player offensively. New coach Bob Weiss won't place the same limitations on Evans, saying he's comfortable with going to the 6-foot-8 player in transition, although Evans won't have many set plays called for him. "That's one thing that frustrated me during the summertime ? people talking about how I don't have an offensive game," said Evans, who averaged 4.9 points last season. "Coach Nate told me not to shoot the ball. I was doing what he wanted me to do. That's why it's so frustrating. I'm just doing my role."</div> Can't wait to see the new free-wheeling, offensive-minded Reggie
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Can't wait to see the new free-wheeling, offensive-minded Reggie </div> I thought the same thing as I read the article. I don't doubt Reggie was told to limit the # of shots he took - probably something like - "when he get an offensive board, reset the offense" - but he makes it sound like the coaching staff refuseed to let him utilize a deadly 15 foot jumper or devastating back to basket game. Its not like he gave any reason when he did get an opportunity to show he deserved more touches. Actually, the more I think about, Reggie is right - my guess is that Nate told him his role was to shoot 53.4% from the line - maybe Weiss won't restrict him so much and he'll bump that up to 57% this season
