Rookie Deron Williams, however, apparently is not much of a history buff ? at least not when the specific subject matter revolves around certain Jazz point guards of the distant past. Williams, for instance, did not even know until told Tuesday that John Stockton was not a starter during his rookie NBA season. And he certainly never heard of Rickey Green ? the former All-Star who did start when Stockton did not, then eventually was deposed by the league's now-retired all-time steals and assist leader. Jerry Sloan, however, lived that history ? and recalls it as if Green and Stockton were both playing yesterday. Sloan also remembers how even a point as skilled as Stockton needed some time before making the Jazz offense virtually his own ? and how even at the end he would frequently glance back to Sloan for a play call from the bench. "I don't know if we'll 'turn it over' (to Williams)," said Sloan, the longtime Jazz coach head who was an assistant during the early chapters of Stockton's storied 19-season career. "I didn't 'turn it over' to John Stockton ? because that's the way John wanted it. He wanted to play how ever we wanted to play ? and Deron, I think, is probably somewhere along those lines. But as far as the minutes and everything, those things will take care of themselves as we move along."</div> <div align="center">Source</div>
