Monta's a baller plain and simple. I liked his skills in the summer league. He has Baron to watch and learn from. I can't figure what kind of minutes he'll get but his scoring and quickness will eventually get him into some games. I have this nagging feeling that by midseason Dfish will be shipped to a contender and Monta will move up the depth chart. Our bench could be as good as some teams starters. Monta Pietrus Barky Diogu Taft/Biedrins That group has a lot of desire, speed, and scoring ability. Bring on the season!

If Monta plays as well in the regular season as he has in the summer league, I see no need for Fisher. I would rather have Baron, Jrich and Dunleavy shooting clutch shots than Fisher at this point. I know Jrich is clutch and Dunleavy is a good shooter in general. And Baron Davis provides us with that guy who with 10 second left can take it one on one to the hole to get a clutch basket every time. Hopefully Diogu will be one of those guys too with his ability to get to and convert free throws. As far as Fisher's leadership goes, we have all the leadership we need in Baron Davis. He is a true leader. Fisher has championship experience, but he is nothing without Shaq and Kobe. If we get rid of Fisher it better be for a contract that is expiring in at least 2 years though...

I'm stoked to hear about each player's progress over the offseason. It sounds like each and every player took to heart the desire to improve and made sure that 2005-2006 is the season that ended the drought and began a new chapter in W's history. I'm excited to see how the team looks in a week or so, when they broadcast a preseason game on FNSBA on October 11. Speaking of offseason, its good to be back on JBB, after spending 3 months traveling through India.
Monta has second coming of Arenas written all over it. Second round draft pick, scoring machine and SG in PG body. Hope we can end up keeping Monta this time...
Im glad to hear that Monta is playing well even in the pros. Im more glad to hear that Foyle is in the best shape of his life. He will be a beast this year, book it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Run BJM:</div><div class="quote_post">Im more glad to hear that Foyle is in the best shape of his life. He will be a beast this year, book it.</div> I think Murphy will stop that from happening. There was definitely better play coming from Foyle back in late 2004 and better play from Dampier when Cliff Robinson was in the lineup. Foyle was coming back from injury for a few games, but he looked decent... but that was because he played as a backup center Oh and I think Murphy was done for the season since he hurt his lung going for a dunk against Shawn Bradley. I think that was the same timespan. But yeah, the chemistry seems to be off when we have Foyle/Murph as starters. Neither score inside, both carry longterm contracts, both can rebound but don't help the team overall as a better rebounding team, only one can play defense, only one can score on offense.... It's like having four total players on the court because Murphy isn't ideally a starter and Foyle is plainly a backup. I'm just hopin' Diogu and Biedrins come around sooner because there's such a small window for a team to put together a playoff run. Anyway good for Monta. He looks like he is going to be a player with that attitude and skill level for his age. Body type wise he is quick and tall.
Hope that Foyle will come out ready to play this season, because he was also known as a slow starter for some reason. Hope he can defend the middle and grab a rebound close to double figure like end of last season...

Good for him. He said his goal is to avoid the NBDL. I dont think this kid has to worry about anything. I think Fisher needs to worry more about his back up PG spot than this kid getting dropped down to the NBDL...
Here is the whole article. Taft is at a whopping 272 lbs. and has a groin injury. I guess his back injury in summer league was pretty bad. Ellis steals show with his energy ? Rookie guard makes quite an impression in first competitive practice Warriors notebook LAIE, Hawaii -- Warriors rookie guard Monta Ellis stole the ball from Baron Davis and zipped up court on the break in Tuesday's second practice session. With Derek Fisher standing in the way of his layup, Ellis twisted around the veteran in midair to avoid a charge. With Davis trying to block the shot from behind, Ellis switched the ball from his right hand to his left and laid it in. "Young fella came to play," guard Jason Richardson said after Wednesday's first practice. "We were going at about 80 percent, he was going like 140 percent. He's like, 'I may be from high school, but I can play.'" By all accounts, Ellis was impressive in the Warriors' first competitive practice of training camp at BYU Hawaii's Cannon Activities Center on the island of Oahu. He showed off his athleticism and creativity, getting by Davis with a shifty around-the-back dribble in the open court. He also showed off his stroke, at one point knocking down three consecutive outside shots. "What I like about the kid is that he plays hard on every play," assistant coach Mario Elie was quoted saying on the team's Web site. "We kind of got a glimpse of what he can do late in practice with his speed and quickness." Ellis, however, was not impressed with his first practice. With his focus set on avoiding the NBA Developmental League, he said he realizes he has a ways to go. "It was cool," he said Wednesday. "I did all right." Odd men out Coach Mike Montgomery will be in a difficult spot when the exhibition games roll around. Dividing minutes among 18 players is a tough job. The Warriors have five training camp invitees -- centers Deji Akindele and Mamadou N'diaye, forward Justin Davis, and guards Ray Young and Aaron Miles -- who need minutes in their push to make the team. The younger players -- such as Ellis, Andris Biedrins and Ike Diogu -- need game experience to be in position to contribute during the season. "With all of our draft picks, it's just going to take time," Montgomery said. "It may be March before they're able to really get in the position to help." But more important is that the starters and the regular reserves get into game shape and in sync with one another. Montgomery is putting a premium on giving ample time to his top players. That doesn't bode well for the rest. "One of the ways you have to get in shape in this league is by playing games in the preseason," Montgomery said. "You can't simulate game-level intensity in practice. You can't do it. In a game, the level goes up, you push yourself harder, 48 minutes. So I need to have the veteran guys, the top guys that are going to be playing, getting those minutes so they get themselves in shape." Rookie Taft hurting Rookie power forward Chris Taft was held out of Wednesday's morning session because of a strained right groin. Montgomery said the back injury Taft sustained during a summer league game in early July prevented him from reporting to camp in shape. In precamp weigh-ins, Taft registered at 272 pounds. He was listed at 260 before the injury. "He's probably carrying too much weight, which is not the best thing for his back," Montgomery said. "For Chris, he's a guy that needs to be on the floor. It's just really too bad because he's got an opportunity to be a player, but he needs to practice, he needs to play the game. ... Right now he's kind of in limbo." -- Marcus Thompson II http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctime...rs/12831537.htm
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Montay:</div><div class="quote_post">Here is the whole article. Taft is at a whopping 272 lbs. and has a groin injury. I guess his back injury in summer league was pretty bad. </div> That article makes it sound pretty bad. I know I read somewhere when Taft hurt his back he was hospitalized that night, then the next day he was in a wheelchair. Think to yourself, he could not work out hardly at all for the last few months. He is going to gain some weight. 12 pounds is not that bad. He could lose that first month back in practice. I am concerned we have not heard anything about Diogu...
Montay is looking like a great prospect. Blue chipper. Too bad about Taft. It was highly unlikely he would get much playing time this year anyway but it's a bummer to hear him bloat up to 272. When he gets healthy, it will be pretty easy to cut that weight down. He's a pretty lucky kid when thinking about all the chances he's getting. He was a guaranteed lottery pick when it looked like he may not get picked by any team he was picked by the W's. He was given a multi year contract but now this back injury comes up and puts on weight. Luck will eventually run out, I hope the kid takes advantage.
Taft has Washburn written all over him. The only difference is the draft positioning. I hope I'm totally wrong, but from college to the Warriors, there's always a reason for his problems other than himself. I have a back that goes out all of the time now. It's excruciating at first. It's my own fault though. Putting on pounds is the easiest way to injur the back. Also keeping the back flexible and strengthened is the best medicine. When he hurt his back the first time in summer league, he should have done everything possible to watch his weight gain. Now the groin. What next the flu. Or maybe the dreaded hangnail. In college there was always questions as to why he wasn't doing more with that God-given size and talent. Hopefully he'll mature really quick and realize that his dreams can come true with alot of hard work!
From what I heard, Taft was pretty spectacular during the summer league up until he got hurt. Give him some time, but I agree with you. He does need to make sure he works hard to realize his true potential...
