<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Like Williams, Cheeks is also starting his first season with the Sixers. Cheeks had been the head coach of the Portland Trailblazers from 2001-2005 and last season coached another high school prospect in Sebastian Telfair. Unlike Williams, Telfair did go in the first round, but Cheeks doesn?t see many differences between the two. ?Well, I think Telfair coming from New York was playing against a lot of pro players, probably before he actually got to the NBA, because New York can breed those kind of things where they have the opportunity to go play against pro players and college players, not just high school players,? explained Cheeks. ?So I think that has a little something for Telfair because he had those experiences early on. I think Lou didn?t have those opportunities to play against guys like that, he played against some very good high school players, but I don?t think he had the chance to play against any pro players, so I think it takes him a step back in that. It doesn?t diminish his abilities any, he just hasn?t had the experience of playing against those pro players like Telfair had.? Yet, while it is still early on in a long NBA season, Williams has impressed many with his play during the first couple days of the Sixers training camp. ?I don?t think these things are surprising that Louis is doing,? quoted Cheeks after practice on Wednesday. ?The fact that he?s doing it against NBA players may be a little surprising. Like we talked about, Sebastian Telfair probably did it against pro players early on coming from New York, but the fact that Louis is doing it now against NBA players and probably hasn?t had the chance to do it before is, I think, pretty special. But I don?t think it?s surprising to anyone that he?s doing it, because I think the reason why he was drafted him is because we all believed that he had the ability to do the things that he?s doing now.?</div> Link(Look under Great Expactations)
if williams gets his minutes and performs like telfair in his rookie season, then i think we got a steal that late in the draft.
Louis Williams was IMO the most underrated high school player drafted this year other than Amir Johnson who was grabbed my Detroit with something close to the last pick in the second round. Louis had the oppurtunity to learn from the best, Allen Iverson and I dont think he's going to leave Philly without picking up a thing or two. Williams should be able to get minutes considering the only other gaurds the Sixers have after AI are Kevin Ollie and John Salmons. Willie isnt under contract yet according to the sixers site so..
A lot of people label Williams this years bust. Although he may not make much of an impact this season, I think he has potential to be a good player in the future. After all he was the top high school player in america. It is also good to hear that AI is teaching him things, it sounds as if he has put the rookie under his wing and who to learn from better then Allen?
I think 4-5 years into the league, Louis is capable of putting up 15, 5, and 5. He's a capable player with a nice game and learning from the Answer should make him much, much better. He might not have much of an impact this season or even get many minutes but I think he's capable of doing big things in the future, or atleast being a valuable asset to a good team.
It's nice to see him impressing Cheeks but many have impressed their coaches in the training camp,it's another thing to do it in the regular season. I hope he does the same as the season starts, impress and make an impact to get more minutes.
Did anyone check out the Louis WIlliams Training Camp clip? It's on the front page of Sixers.com, check it out.
I believe that Louis Williams has the work ethic and skill to be a great player in this league for years to come. He may never be a superstar and may not even replace Iverson, but he will be great. If he works hard, and it looks like he is, gets advice from the best small man in the game and takes it all on board, then he could average 18 pts 5 rebs 5 ass and 2 stls over the course of his career. I love to see young kids that are willing to put in the work rather than take the situation all for granted. Go Louis!!!
