Dunleavy won't get $8 million based on what he has done so far. What he gets will depend a lot on what another team might be willing to pay him. If he's a 16 ppg guy and a much better defender-then perhaps he's got a shot at $8 million per. That we have Pietrus + Zarko, and at this point,it's looking as if either could match Dunleavy's contribution, overall, while being less $ for a while also will influence the Warrior's plans. We might get a deal where we give Fish, and a sign+swap Dunleavy for an expiring and a rookie or a pick, and then we have $ space when we need to re-sign MP,Zarko,Andy. We won't be compelled to overpay Dunleavy and then compensate with a few deals where we bleed more talent to get the $ stuff squared away. Chances are that if and when Minny puts KG on the Market-SOME TEAM-will overpay,by a lot,to get him and wind up in no better position than the T-Wolves are in. I can see a REAL SLIM chance that for whatever reason,we have some edge and get Garnett at a price that results in a better outlook for us. At the moment we have a number of guys who are close to having a breakout in terms of market value. We may have more bargaining chips by deadliine than we have now if guys step up and we are news because we win.
I don't think anybody disagree that what Dunleavy did is worth more than 6 mils per year. After all, he is not a real go to guy with bad defense. And, if Mullin isn't in love with Dunleavy, I would also agree that Mullin will do hard bargain against Dunleavy. But, since Mullin loves Dunleavy and young players generally gets more than their market value, I put 8 mils per year for Dunleavy. Heck, the rumor is that he may get 9 mils per year. And, this is why I think we have a good chance if KG is actually available. -Nobody will give equal value if he is every available, because it's simply impossible. Teams with young established superstar won't swap them for KG, because KG is hitting 30 years old. Cavs won't swap James for KG, Suns won't throw Stoudmire for KG, and Heat won't give up Wade for KG. -In other hand, Wolves won't receive already established superstar for KG, because it will be meaningless. Wolves won't swap Iverson for KG, Dirk for KG or Kobe for KG. -Trading KG means they are totally rebuilding, so they will want number of young players with star qualities in return. And, they also want number of rookie contracts in return, instead of players with long term committment. Also receiving team has to be a PO team, and even if they sent bunch of talents for KG, they have to have enough talents to compete even before receiving KG, so that receiving KG will be definite upgrade. If not, there is no way for KG to approve the trade. Yes, technically there is no way for KG to block the trade. But, as we all know, all it takes is a little threat from KG to block the trade, and if KG believes that he is in a same situation in the new team, it's most likely that he won't approve the trade. If we consider all those aspects, there aren't too many NBA teams left to qualify. Chicago can be one team and we can be another team. Maybe Boston as well, but if they make a package for KG, I don't think they will have much left. Chicago has an advantage in terms of being in Eastern conference and KG's hometown, but in terms of talent wise, I believe we can package better one than Chicago one. And, obviously my wild theory isn't based on right now. In order for my theory to have any chance, first Wolves have to crash early and hard, so that they have to be in a situation to trade KG. Second, we have to be successfuly, so that our young players will get a spotlight, increasing their market value. And third, those young players have to improve and show something. Of course, right now if we package unproven Biedrins, rookie Diogu, and raw Pietrus + Murphy or Richardson, some other teams may be able to offer better stuff. But, with one year of improving, we may hold very good bargain chips in our hand, hopefully enough to get KG if he is ever available...
If we give Dunleavy $8-9m per year for 5-6 years I will be tempted to give up being a Golden State Warriors fan, seriously. I dont know if I could handle that. To me Dunleavy is only worth $6m per year TOPS. I would not even pay that because like everyone has said, we have at least 2 guys that can produce just as much as Dunleavy has over the last 3-4 years. He is getting better. If he increases his points and percentage and plays better defense, I would not mind keeping him, but I am would not pay him to stay. I think that could be better used to keep other players who I think will be better than Dunleavy like Pietrus or Biedrens...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AnimeFANatic:</div><div class="quote_post">Ideally I'd want to give him a 5 year 25 mil contract.</div> I could handle that. I think that is fair and would allow us some more flexibility I hope. Or maybe a 4 year $24m deal...
The problem with Minnesota's that even though they didn't make the playoffs, they still won 44 games. Not exactly in the dumper. Their roster doesn't look so great, but they things would really have to go very bad for them to give up on KG. But What Ifs? They already need a center, so including Foyle, might work. They really need a point guard as well, but we're no help there, because they wouldn't want Fisher, and Baron's out of the question. They have McCants at the 2, but Pietrus is intriguing enough to be part of a deal. If Skita finally pans out, adding Biedrins or Cabarkapa, might sweeten the deal. I'm positive they would want Diogu to play power forward, without having KG around. So maybe Foyle, Diogu, and Pietrus could get it done. But of course Minnesota will have to see that Diogu is the real deal first.
You're not considering the salary cap. Foyle + Fisher + Murphy would fill the Wolves needs and clear capspace for a fat contract KG has.
