<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">New York Post - Antonio Davis, who returned to Chicago yesterday to be with his ailing mother-in-law, likely will have his contract bought out by the Knicks. Davis, 37, was acquired from the Bulls on Monday in the trade that also brought Eddy Curry to the Knicks. Davis reported to training camp and expressed his unhappiness because he didn't want to leave his family. Larry Brown said he doesn't want Davis here if that's the case. Davis' wife is a Chicago native. Isiah Thomas said Davis has no choice, but that's likely a buyout negotiating ploy. The Bulls will re-sign him if the Knicks buy out a portion of Davis' expiring contract. Davis is set to make $13.7 million this season. "I don't want to stand in his way if he doesn't feel comfortable," Brown said of Davis. "I'd be disappointed. But you don't want somebody who doesn't want to be here. If it's not in his best interests, we'll move on. He's got to be devastated. He's got [his wife] and the kids settled there." Playing bad cop, Thomas said Davis "has no choice. This isn't charity." Davis' buyout would leave the Knicks with 14 guaranteed contracts, one less than the maximum allowed. Yesterday's signee, forward Matt Barnes, a good defender who played for Sacramento and Philadelphia last season, could make the roster.</div> http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...s_he_wants_out/

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting rookie789:</div><div class="quote_post">another one just like lynch, what is wrong with athletes these days, this dude david stern need to start making up new rules about punishing these kinda players cut their salary money or something, make them play for free</div> I agree, this is "professional" basketball, and these indivduals are acting anything, but professional. Actually there are new rules (as part of the new CBA), and Antonio Davis was one of the people agreeing to having rules put in place to fine players acting up after a trade. He's been a role model and is a veteran of the game. He has no right to complain about the $13.9M the Knicks will have to pay him next season. If he wants to be waived, he should be forced to rip up his contract and give the $13.9M back to the Knicks.
Yea, I'm totally tired of players demanding trades and demanding out of organizations. Anyway, I'm not really surprized about Davis wanting out. I think he might hold out if he doesn't get waived. He really wanted to move to Chicago and retire their and raise his family. He won't be happy in NY.
I think that if he really doesn't want to play here, than let him go and dont worry about his contract. Cause if they don't, he won't play with the same heart he usually would and wouldn't be as much as an asset or role player for the knicks.
I'm with Isiah in saying this isn't charity.. cause it isn't. Trades are part of sports and I understand Davis has family issues but it's not like he was traded to Ireland. NY is about an hour flight from Chicago. Either way I hope he decides to be a man and stay his last contract year. The Knicks could use him as a great back up PF and he's a solid veteran whose leadership will come in handy in the locker room.. if he's happy.
True that...If he ain't happy then he must deal with it. It's all business here nothing personal. Besides Zeke ain't done yet. I'd give him a minute or two and you'll here Davis' name again in another trade.
I hope he stays... and they don't buy him out.. but either way.. his salary comes off the cap at the end of the year... all 13 million.
