Tim Duncan vs. Hakeem Olajuwan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Career Stats: Hakeem 21.8 ppg 11.10 rpg 2.5 apg 3.09 bpg NBA MVP (1994); NBA champion (1994, '95) NBA Finals MVP(1994, '95) Tim Duncan 22.5 ppg 12.2 rpg 3.1 apg 2.5 bpg NBA MVP (2002 2003) NBA champion (1999, 2003, 2005) NBA Finals MVP (1999, 2003, 2005) Which of these 2 players do u think is better, they have similar numbers. i think Hakeem was a more explosive scorer but Duncan is a better passer and more fundamental. its a tough choice. im gonna say duncan though. -edit- i orginally put this in the spurs forum but its pretty much dead.
Ima say Hakeem. I really dont like these threads. Sooner or later someone's is gonna say Duncan and it's gonna start a never ending debate. So please everybody just state your opinion and dont try to prove eachother wrong and put eachother down.
I would say Olajuwon. But not by much, maybe by the end of Duncan's career i'd say Duncan, but for now i think Olajuwon. Sometimes i wonder if Olajuwon had a dependable sidekick like mj had pip, how many more rings would he get?
ok i am going to say Duncan...but only by a bit. i say this because for one he has more accomplishments i.e more mvp's, championships etc. as of now his numbers are slightly better. not to mention he is a better passer. right now this might sound whack, but i have a feeling when duncan retires he may be placed higher in people's minds then olajuwon.
We had a thread on this a while ago. The Rockets posters owned some Spurs fan. We can do it again if you want!
Duncan's numbers are better right now, because he's still younger. Hakeem played a couple years too many, and his averages went down as he got older. Hakeem is in a whole another category. Duncan has a place in the Hall Of Fame, but he ain't no Hakeem. Maybe a slightly better rebounder, but Hakeem was the best all around Center EVER. He did things that no center has done. He was the first center to have that type of quickness, and footwork. We're talking about a guy who made David Robinson cry, and outplayed Patrick Ewing and Shaq in the finals two different years. This guy was incredible.............
Who was more dominant? Dream...he took opponents apart... Who's the better player statistcally? I'd say its a wash...if Duncan gets 2-3 more rings then I'm willing to say hes a notch better...but you cant go wrong choosing either... let me put it this way- Dream is arguably the greatest center in history and Duncan is arguably the greatest power forward in history... no need to compare the two...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Houston:</div><div class="quote_post">let me put it this way- Dream is arguably the greatest center in history and Duncan is arguably the greatest power forward in history... no need to compare the two...</div> Couldn't of said it better. Duncan doesn't even like playin Center. But still, Hakeem was the better player....
I think its too early to tell. At the moment I think it would be close, but Hakeem would take it at the moment. If Duncan wins another 2 rings and plays well until about 35-36 then he would be considered better.
i don't care what anyone says. Duncan might have good stats and many accomplishments, but he will never be as good as hakeem! It almost makes me mad when the two are compared. Dream would have ran circles around TD. He would have made duncan look like a fool! much like how he made the "MVP" david robinson look in the western conference finals!!! NO COMPARISON!!!
Olajuwon and it's not even close........Duncan doesn't have that killer instinct like Olajuwon or the array of moves........Olajuwon >>>> Duncan in every facet of the game (except maybe for passing)......and I'm not just saying this, because he's my favorite player. EDIT: Also take this in account, Hakeem was the best big man of his time and he played in a era with Shaq,Robinson, and Ewing.......oh and by the way he schooled all of them.............Duncan is great and I'm a fan, but Hakeem is on a whole nother level than T.D. Oh and 94-95 Rockets >>>> current Spurs roster....just thought I'd throw that in.
Hakeem was not a 7 footer. 6'10 at best eventhough he was listed as 7'. He played in an era of a number of good centers and always guarded them and it was his physical strength and athletiscism that gave hime the edge. He would often get faked in the air, come down and pop right back up to block a shot. And his assortment of moves will never be matched in my opinion by any other center. Defense, Scoring, Jumping, quickness, and later in his career he became such a good passer, and I think he tops Duncan in those categories. Hakeem is so historically underated because he came up as a big man in the Bird Magic Jordan era. Has Duncan ever had a quadruple double?(serious question)
Duncan should be discussed on the same level as Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Moses Malone, or even David Robinson, but Olajuwon is just a notch too high. We're talking about a top 15 player in NBA history who revolutionized the position and has won both the regular season MVP and the Defensive Player of the Year. Not to mention he faced much tougher competition in the 90's than Duncan is facing now. EDIT: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Has Duncan ever had a quadruple double?(serious question)</div> No. He came very close within one in one of the biggest games in his career, Game 6 against the Nets in the 2003 Finals. In a title-clinching game, Duncan put up 21, 20, 10 and 8 blocks. He hasn't come any closer though.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Locke:</div><div class="quote_post">Duncan should be discussed on the same level as Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Moses Malone, or even David Robinson, but Olajuwon is just a notch too high</div> Yeah..........Duncan is more of a David Robinson type. That's actually a good thing. But Hakeem was a on another level. Hands down. The comparison is kind of insulting, Spurs fans might be a little too excited.
