I've read a lotta posts bashing our team but I think we'll come up with a playoff contender. The Real question is who plays PG though, I think we have a number of more than serviceable options, at least from what I've read. I'm just wondering what everybody thinks.

My early favorite is Delonte West, although there's been a ton of hype from Doc and company about Dickau. The reason I give West the edge is because his game has the most balance. Banks needs to improve on offense and Dickau needs to improve on defense.

Id say Marucs Banks should be their starter, hes quick, strong, and can get to the basket, and can see the floor pretty well.

ive never seen delonte west or marcus banks play cause i didnt watch a lot of celtics games.
But ive seen plenty of Dickau's game and i think he is a very decent PG. he's quick, can drive and shoot the 3.. eventhough he tends to force his shot..

If Banks shows in the pre-season that his game is more controlled, then he definitely should start. West should get the start if Banks fails to impress. Dickau's great off the bench as he could score and keep the tempo going while the starters are resting.

I wouldn't be surprised if Banks is one of the PG who doesn't make it out of training camp. He could either be cut or traded. Having Delonte, and now adding Dickau along with Bynum and Greene really hurts Banks chances. Its now his 3rd year with the team, and 2nd under Doc. We already know that Doc isnt a big fan of Banks, and reports coming out of training camp already say that Doc isn't impressed again, with Banks' lack of consistency. I'd say tonight we'll see Delonte start, but he and Dickau will split minutes at the point. It's really a toss-up between those 2 guys for the starting job right now.

I agree somewhat, but he have to keep in mind that Banks has been an investment of time and patience for this team, he really shouldn't be written off in training camp. Last night he impressed me with a nose for the basket. Like Tommy said, he was the only one going hard to the basket, while the Cavs abused the point offensively. Gooden was having too good a game for us to be able hold our heads high in the defensive paint, while Banks made the offense look tame once he took the floor. The C's seemed content to attack the floor, but not the basket, and that's a really bad sign. I guess the exception to that would be Delonte, who had some tremendous buckets, but that's about all. Pierce kept settling on the mid range (but he can do that, because he can hit the shot), Davis wasn't even shooting (although that was more because he was pretty much focusing on his defensive game, which was good), and Blount was the only other playing scoring significant points (and he still wasn't great), so all in all, we have more to worry about after the first game, especially in the point guard department. I say that because Dickau wasn't good, at all, Delonte impressed, although seemingly not enough, and Banks was actually the most polished of the group. It seems Orien Greene has to settle to the NBA game before he will be significant, although I think he will be just that.

I totally disagree with you on Banks' game. I thought he did a good job on D, but he gave it all back with cheap, meaningless fouls. He always does that, and he can't blame it on getting "rookie calls" anymore. Marcus needs to learn to lay off his man a little bit when they are over 30 feet away from the basket.

On offense, I don't think he was that good at all. I agree with what Doc said, in that Marcus doesn't run the offense well because he's always looking for his own shot. I heard that Delonte actually did a good job of that, setting up Pierce and Blount for many great opportunites. I also heard he was very stable, which is exactly what I want from a PG.

I think the depth chart still has Delonte first, with Dickau and Banks a close second.

Well, when it comes to Banks' role off the bench, I still think he's a third man at best. And, yes, as usual, he did give up meaningless fouls. I think he probably has a future somewhere else, but his play isn't right for our system. Yes, he did attack the basket, but you're right Thrilla, this guy needs his head examined.

He did get some great looks for the youngsters, but that's not really enough when you have to run an offense. I guess I was impressed because I was comparing him to his previous seasons, and now I realize that that's just not a fair comparison, I should be comparing him to Delonte West, who is a much more fundamentally sound point guard.

Dickau will eventually win over the starting pg position. He may not win it coming out of camp but over the course of the season I truly believe that DD will win out. Do not make any opinions yet based on the first preseason game. Most players dont get their playing legs until about the 4th or 5th preseason game. Wes will start the season with DD finishing. Banks will come off the bench. Greene and Bynum will go to the NBDL.

I think it will be Dickau, he's effecient and he's a good PG. I just feel that Dickau would fit better with the Celtics squad than Delonte, Marcus or Orien Green. Delonte is my favorite out of them but I dont see him capable of starting yet, atleast not over Dickau.

I'm so disgusted with Dickau's defense that I'm gonna drop him below Banks, Greene, and Bynum on my depth chart.

Until he can control mediocre point guards like Mike James, I don't want Dickau anywhere near the court.

Darn right, he just looked silly today. I think it's the hair. He needs some length back. Kiddin', anyway, I think Greene started to show flashes in the second half after he calmed down a bit. Banks potentially sunk his chances by getting hurt. West will get the best look I think, but Bynum hasn't had a fair look, and I don't think he will, unfortunately. So for now, let's count on who we were going to count on, West.

I'm going to start agreeing with this sentiment strongly. I need to see Dickau do ANYTHING right, before I decide any different, if Greene continues his confident streak, he may well be a second stringer if Dickau can't play defense.

That's based on his success tonight and the opening it would create for Reed and Gomes.

I agree, it probably won't happen, but in my mind, I'm seeing Greene improve, and Dickau disgust. Ricky was phenomenal, but I still think Doc wants him off the bench, and that will probably continue.

As of this writing, yes, he really is that bad. He has looked a little lost, and I think it's mostly because of his pitiful defense. With no quickness and no anticipation, he has lacked any sort of on-the-ball effectiveness, and, as a result, has allowed far too many easy looks and uncontested baskets. Then, once he turns around and has the ball in his hands, he has been turning it over with regularity, and is petrified of shooting the ball, which is one the reasons he was supposed to be effective. I think the offensive ineptitude has something to do with an unfamiliarity with a running game, but, at this point, it's starting to look unrealistic, in that his learning curve has been far too steep for any veteran with a decent mind for the game.

On the plus side, he's been great at drawing fouls on his way to the hoop, but he seems unwilling to come out of his shell enough to actually get the ball to the hoop, so that's pretty much moot.

At this point, I'm almost sorry to say that we're stuck with his contract, but still, it's early and he may yet have something to show us, but it better happen quick (in more ways than one), and it better be extreme, otherwise, he may be a third-stringer on this team, and the third-string point guard on this squad isn't going to get very many minutes.

I think its best if we give Dickau and West equal time. I don't think one is significantly better then the other. They both bring different looks to the court. I would also like to see Orien Greene get a little time. He impressed me against the Bulls the other night.

I don't know if I agree with you on West and Dickau. West has played significantly better defense, outhustled him, and run an offense better. On the other hand, at least Dickau can break a half court trap, make it look bad even. West has to learn to bring the ball up, and learn to shoot a little more readily. My favorite part of West's game is the extra rebounder he brings to the floor, and he seems to have an uncanny knack for knowing when to hustle up the court and when to hang back and grab an offensive board. Better still, he can afford to make those plays because of his legs, and because he has guys like Ricky Davis backing him up and taking the point guard defensively, if necessary.

Dickau isn't as smart as we thought, and he has really showed me nothing on the court. Until he gets some minutes and shows us he has brain one in that rather disproportionate head, I say start Delonte.

And I want Orien Greene to continue getting significant minutes, he has really impressed me. He is playing like a heads up veteran, even if his big men aren't. He has made them look a little foolish with passes they just don't anticipate, but that comes with playing with a guy more, so I still have hope for them.

Final judgement: give West the majority of the minutes, split the scraps between Dickau and Greene, depending on your defensive needs.

Can't argue with that, sounds accurate to me. I agree with West's rebounding ability, it a real nice bonus to get boards out of your point guard.
