Having pronounced center Eddy Curry fit after he experienced an irregular heartbeat last season, the Knicks' medical team soon will turn its attention to Larry Brown's bladder problem. The 65-year-old coach underwent a third surgical procedure in June at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and was supposed to return in December, but Brown said yesterday that he's planning on coaching the full 82-game schedule.

Referring to the health problems that caused him to miss 17 games as Pistons coach in the middle of last season, Brown said, "I still have some of the same things, but I'm OK. It doesn't affect me coaching. I feel great, and we'll see if some things can be worked out."

When the Knicks hired Brown in July, it was with the understanding he would be afforded whatever time off is necessary to attend to his health problems. Assistant Herb Williams is expected to run the team if Brown visits the Mayo Clinic.

But Dr. Lisa Callahan, the Knicks' director of player care, told Brown she's working to set up whatever treatment he requires in New York. It was Callahan who organized the group of specialists who tested Curry for signs of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal heart disease, and then determined he's not at any heightened risk.</div>
