The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers have been discussing a trade that would send Celtics swingman Paul Pierce to the Clippers for swingman Corey Maggette, sources told ProBasketballNews.com late Sunday.

Other players are also said to be involved.

?They have been working on a deal for the majority of the summer, and it appears the talk is heating up,? a high-ranking Eastern Conference official said. ?There?s no doubt the Clippers have been dangling Maggette, and Boston seems pretty tempted.?

Later, a Western Conference general manager responded to an e-mail from PBN.com that asked if he was aware of the possible deal.

?I don?t know specifics, but I do know the Celtics are listening to offers for Pierce,? the GM wrote. ?I know it because they hinted about (trading Pierce) to us in July. .. (Other GMs) I?ve spoken with in recent weeks have told me the Celtics really like Maggette.?

Members of the Celtics and Clippers front offices did not respond to e-mails and phone calls seeking comment as of Sunday at midnight Eastern.

This is the second time in the past two months at least one source has told PBN.com that Boston was trying to deal Pierce to the Clippers. In August, an Eastern Conference scout said Celtics coach Doc Rivers ?desperately wants Pierce out, but he and (Celtics GM Danny) Ainge seem to be at odds? over the matter. The source added that the Celtics were talking to the Clippers, but did not mention Maggette.
Meanwhile, the New York Post reported Sunday that the Clippers are entertaining offers for Maggette and forward Chris Wilcox.

When the Eastern Conference source was asked if he knew any more details of the discussions between Boston and L.A., he told PBN.com, ?No. All I know is a couple of guys I trust around the league have told me about it, and that Pierce and Maggette are the main pieces.?

The Western Conference GM added, ?? Obviously it is something that would have to involve more than Pierce and Maggette. I don?t usually read the Post, and from what I understand, it has a questionable reputation when it comes to NBA trades. But it would not surprise me if Wilcox was involved in the deal.?

With this deal, the Celtics get worse and the Clips get better, IMO...

Pierce is a franchise player...Maggette is not...so from that end, I dont understand what Boston is thinking...I would think you can get a lot more for Paul...

but if the Clips do manage to pull this off, they wouldve had a great offseason...Cassell, Mobley, Pierce...that will be a heckuva team if they learn how to play defense and learn how to play off Brand...

wow! if the clips manage to pull this off, imagine the starting line up:

    pg cassel
    sg mobley
    sf pierce
    pf brand
    c kaman

wow! what a starting line up! my only problem is that besides brand and kaman, no one in this line up has ever played together, so they will have some problems chemistry wise. but this team could very well be the team of LA, and the clipper may finally reach the playoffs again.

Not an even trade. Corey Maggette is good b just cares about stats. Paul Pierce is good though. That would be a good looking lineup

It won't be just Magette don't suprised is Wilcox leave as well. I have a feelig that this is why Cassell was signed, so he could be a part of a blockbuster for Pierce. Think about it, Celtics need a point guard an Cassell is a great veteran player who can tutor the young guys in Boston.

I really don't see if this would help the Celts that much. Pierce has been fairly consistant his entire career, and is just reaching his prime.

I also dont think the Clipps would trade Cassell, as they need a point guard since Livingston still needs a tutor/time to develop.

This is not going to happen. Danny made it a point to shoot down the rumors during the broadcast of the first C's preseason game.

Expect Cassell And Maggette to go if Boston Is trying to trade off Paul Pierce.
Maggette aint as good as a Paul Pierce and Cassell will definetly help the Celtics young guards.

Pierce-Dickau to Clips....Magette,Cassell,Wilcox + future #1 to Celts, perhaps a couple of rd 2 picks to Clips also? Celtics become a transition team as Green emerges. Pierce,Mobely,Brand give the Clips respectability....while its no done deal it makes some sense.

this isn't going to happen, most reports said the trade talk dwindled when the c's requested livingston or brand be involved

i think this would be a good trade, it would get Paul back to is roots in LA, and Maggette could use a scenery change.

if the clips somehow manage to pull this off, the clips will be good enough to not only make the playoffs, but advance to the second round of the playoffs. mark my words.
