<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> CHARLESTON, S.C. ? The inevitable is unfolding in the sad saga that is Allan Houston's comeback.

Houston was dealt a major setback when the Knicks shut him down yesterday after he practiced for less than a week. A medical retirement seems a matter of time.

Houston experienced pain in his left arthritic knee Monday and begged off doing drills. Yesterday, team doctor Lisa Callahan decided Houston needed to rest until at least next week. Houston isn't sure he'll play any of the seven-game preseason schedule that begins Saturday against the Nets.

Bubbly after the first two days of camp, Houston was downcast yesterday, more resigned to his fate than ever before.

"It comes up," Houston said regarding thoughts he'll never make it back. "The bottom line is however God wants this thing to work out, that's how it's going to work out. If it's meant for me to do this, then God will make it happen. If not, he won't, period."

The Knicks' decision to spare Houston from the amnesty waiver ax in August occurred only after revealing to Knick officials he won't go through the same ordeal of the past two seasons, that he'd sooner retire.

After the Knicks announced they waived Jerome Williams instead, Houston said, "I communicated with the Knicks I plan on being back. But if I can't get back to the level where I want to get back, I would consider retiring."</div>

Our chances of making the playoffs rely greatly on Houston's health. Let's hope this is minor.

Allan should just call it a career... his knee obviously can't take the stress anymore. As much as he's meant to NY he should know it's time for him and the team to move on.

I hope if he does retire that he will remain within the franchise.. maybe teach the younger guys how to shoot. I'm sure he'll remain a Knick though cause of his relationship with Dolan.

Houston would be a nice player but if he were to retire the Knicks would need a backup SG and at this time the only player they have that could go there is possibley Ariza or Matt Barnes and both seem better suited to play the 3. I hope Houston doesnt retire just yet, I wanna see him play in the Garden a few more times. Penny's still here but I think he'd be better at the 1 or the 3 rather than playing him at 2. But I guess Penny would be a better backup than Houston at this stage in there careers.

If Houston does return, its probable that he will reinjure himself just like last year. I think NYK should let Houston retire and go on from there. I still think they shouldve kept dermarr johnson. He would be a great backup to crawford. There's not much free agent sg's that would help the knicks. SO Marbury would probably backup Crawford when he's not playing point while Nate or Penny control the 1. H20 is done, He had good memories with us but he's knee has ruined his career.

Agreed. The knicks are living in the shadow of Houston, and hes holding them back. Once he retires, which he should, we can move forward.

He's not holding them back, but he is giving hope to LB and Isiah instead of them looking for another pg or sg. They've already replaced houston with crawford. He's not as good but Crawford can get better if he gets his ego out of the way. H20's reign in New York is over. He'll probably retire or take another year off to make his knee healthier.
