<div class="quote_poster">Quoting B-22:</div><div class="quote_post">How often are you going to get a player who can make an imediate impact at the 45th pick though? Go look at the history and think for yourslef but I highly doubt the possible players the 76ers could have picked over Louis with the 45th pick will make an imediate impact this season. So why not pick a project type player? With the 45th pick you really have nothing to loose, thats why you take a player who has potential.</div> How often do you get a draft as deep as this years? By immediate impact I don’t mean go out get 15 points a night or win rookie of year. I mean play a role be a reliable guy when you are put into the game put points on the board there where guys we could have had at the pick that could have done that Ryan Gomes is one, also Dwayne Jones another. With the 45th pick you have nothing to lose, and you can make the case that Williams may be great in the future, but with that 45th pick considering we have no depth really in our bench we could have addressed other areas of need Or picked a player who played at the collagen level who could be a tad more NBA ready then a highly regarded high school player.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post">I think the comparisons to Allen Iverson are being drawn mainly from his physical appearance as opposed to his game. Coming into the league Iverson?s reputation preceded him. He was a proven winner, and an overall great player. The questions surrounding his game where non-existent when you compare them to Williams. Right now Louis Williams is just another potential player who was drafted on nothing if not his athletic ability. He had a couple televised games on espn in which he did well, and the casual fan hyped him up as something other than a great high school player. He came into the draft expecting to be a first round pick, but fell to 45th overall. He has the ?me against the world? attitude, but that doesn?t necessarily lead to success it simple means you believe in yourself. I honestly do not like his game. To me we would have been better served drafting a guy who we know could make an immediate impact rather than be a project. Especially with the lack of depth on our bench, and the simple fact this is a win now team with Webber and Allen. We can not wait four to five years to see if this guy can become a good NBA player. Well I guess it?s useless to say that now I mean what is done is done of course you can hope he is successful. With the injuries, and lack of talent on our bench he will probably get opportunities this season, and hopefully he will prove me wrong. To me right now to be comparing him to AI who was a proven winner, and first overall pick when he entered the league is going beyond hyping him up and entering the stage of delusion.</div>That about sums it up. EVERYBODY knew AI was a star, he may have had some personal dark clouds over him, but his skills on the court were unquestionable. It was tough, as a hardcore fan, to see AI go from on top of the world in 96-97 to basically the black sheep from 97-99. His appeal dropped with collectors(which was good for me cause I was able to come up on alot of stuff at great prices) and it seemed nobody had anything good to say about him. Then came his spectacular MVP season when he quieted all the nay-sayers and showed that through it all, he can and will succeed. There will never be another AI, he's one of a kind.
There is a kid out in Oaktown, Monta Ellis, who is a little like AI. He's about the same size. Thin and quick as a cat. Monta averaged 40 points a game in HS. And he once scored 72 points in a game. Keep an Eye out for him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Montay:</div><div class="quote_post">There is a kid out in Oaktown, Monta Ellis, who is a little like AI. He's about the same size. Thin and quick as a cat. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting ItsShowtyme24:</div><div class="quote_post">agreed igoudala,i wanna see Louis Willams play good too.I think he is a good kid and player</div> Yeah plus he was pretty impressive in the last game if not mistaken if he's a sixer... i'm his fan
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AIFan:</div><div class="quote_post">can the kid score his first points before we start labeling him as the next (enter star player here)?</div> <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crywalker:</div><div class="quote_post">Although not quite as caustically, I will agree with you here. AI isn't exactly the kind of player that just never comes along. His scoring ability and drive and kick ability, as well as his heart, are what sets him apart, that being said, there will be 10 more like him in the next thirty years, just keep your eyes peeled.</div> It's stupid how we say "The Next Jordan" "The Next Iverson". There will never be another AI like there will never be the next Ryan Bowen. The Next Great Player is a better title for a topic like this. And..seeing as how rookies don't average 23 ppg every couple years I doubt we'll see 10 more in 30 years. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting AIFan:</div><div class="quote_post">Then came his spectacular MVP season when he quieted all the nay-sayers and showed that through it all, he can and will succeed.
