Hearing speculation that an Antoine Wright, Scott Padgett and Cliff Robinson for Al Harrington deal is in the works. Harrington, at 6'9" should be able to play PF, right? That's a very solid lineup for NJ: PG: Kidd SG: Carter SF: Jefferson PF: Harrington C: Krstic
At this stage I really like Padgett's game but I don't maybe it will be a good trade. Edit- BTW do you have a source or something?
This would be a steal if the Nets could pull this trade off. I'm pretty sure Cliff Robinson would be waived by the Hawks and re-sign with the Nets as well. Scott Padgett is replacable and Antoine Wright would have a hard time finding minutes on this team. The trio of Carter-Jefferson-Harrington would be unstoppable with Kidd on the fast break.
Source? I would pull that trade off if it were on the table. I'd happily trade threepoint shooting to rejuvinate our fastbreak game. Harrington has a great game, and it would be fun watching the break with the lineup. Murray and McInnis can still handle some perimeter duties, and i'd say it's believable that Cliff would be bought out and would resign with us. We're logjammed with wing players, so I wouldn't mind seeing Wright go. The question is would Atlanta be willing to deal Harrington just for these 3?
I would do this deal if no picks were given up on the Nets on the Nets end. I dont think that Al Harrington is the guy who would take us to the next level as a power forward. He cant deal with some of the size of the elite bigs in this league...but in the long run I think it puts us in better postion to make some other moves to acquire that big needed to reach the next level...but Iam not willing to give up a 1st rounder along with those guys to aquire him. Anyway, I dont think this rumor has much teeth to it, I havent heard it anywhere.....Please produce a link or something before I decide to move to rumors forum...
Atlanta would do anything trade possible like that stupid Walker and GP trade to Boston. That saying I dont think Al would be comfortable playing the 4 against big pf's in the east. AL likes to shoot from the perimeter drive in etc just like SF's like RJ do. That saying ATL would'nt take an aging Cliff, Backup SF, and a rookie for their best player last year. Wright also adds to their fully loaded rookie or sophomore team. The team needs more experience instead of getting younger. Every team needs veterans to show them the way.
I'd like this deal for New Jersey but it doesnt really help the Hawks, they already have enough 2/3's on there team and Antoine would just be in the mix there, Robinson would be bought out and that doesnt help the Hawks in any way, shape or form.
the Joe Johnson deal/signing took a bit off their cap space...maybe they would consider doing something like this to get that cap room back immediately. I know the Hawks already have alot of cap room but they hate spending and love to have loads & loads of space under the cap. Plus they may have a legitmate bigman target in their sites for the next offseason like Nene or some else to overpay. So they maybe looking to get rid of Harrrington's 7 million now. Anyway still no source.......
Al Harrington has been shopped around all summer by the Hawks. He's in the final year of his deal, and will be an unrestricted free agent next summer. The Hawks already know he's going to walk after this year, and so do other teams. This might be the best deal out there for the Hawks at this point.
I do not see how he will help the team what so ever. We alreay have offense. I do not see Harrington as a defensive player or rebounder. We need exactly what he will not be able to provide at the PF position. I have to admit, however, that the guy is young and at 250 pounds is no weakling. Considering that we are potentially giving up vitually no size (Cliff will return and Padgett is easily replaced by Murray), I think that it might be a good deal. It certainly does not hurt to make the team deeper

But I do think he can be a strong 2nd unit 4, playing alongside Marc Jackson. If he can give you the type of effort that he gave Indy a few years back off the bench then I think we walk away with a steal in this deal. But I still think that after the aquisition our best starting frontcourt is Collins and Krstic. Anyway still no link............
he's not a pf by definition.. we can go with other players such as wilcox.. but for d ryt price, i myt as well.. such as Wright + Planinic...

The new CBA stipulates you gotta wait, but you already knew that. Aside from that, Al Harrington's pitiful defense almost automatically disqualifies him from being a four, as he can't bang bodies, nor can he face up. I say, let this one go.
^Realistically, how many teams have overly pshyical 4's in their 2nd unit around this league. Starting is a different case I dont think Harrington matches up well over the long hall of a game against starting 4's to be a starter. But the drop off from starting 4's to 2nd unit 4's for alot of teams are pretty drastic...especially from a phsyical standpoint....lets just look at the elite teams...Spurs from Duncan to Horry.....Horry is a perimeter guy at the 4..doesnt play in the post much....Pistons Rasheed to Mcdyess...Mcdyess doesnt play in the lane like he did pre-knee/leg problems...the Heat Haslem actually does more work in the lane then Walker, who is really a tweener Small forward/power forward himself. So I think when you look around the league Harrington can matchup with alot of 2nd unit Power Forwards...and have more then his fare share of success. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting the_game:</div><div class="quote_post">he's not a pf by definition.. we can go with other players such as wilcox.. but for d ryt price, i myt as well.. such as Wright + Planinic...</div> ahhh...I dont think I would give up both Wright and Planinic in a deal for Wilcox....who a 2nd unit big in this league. If we trade both we completely give up all our youth on the perimeter...and stuck with a older 2nd unit perimeter Vaughn,McInnis, & Murray. I think one of the strongest points of our 2nd unit right now is that balance between youth and veteran on the backup perimeter.

But you're right, with most teams, as the game wears on, you tend to get favorable matchups for a quick 4 with decent ball handling ability, and decent scoring ability. Still, second units have to account for stretches in the game that are important defensively (big stops are often necessary for a second unit, when a first unit isn't jelling), and Al Harrington would be no help there. All in all, it's not a deal I make. But then, I'm more of a defensive minded guy than most.
theres no source so its proabably not gunna happen, i was looking for a source on prosportsdaily yesterday nd it said that harrington and jj are the only 2 hawks that are like guareenteed there job (starting/min)
<font face=""Tahoma"">This would be an amazing trade if New Jersey could pull it off. Al Harrington could easily play some power forward and would fill out their lineup. With Jason Kidd running the point, Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter penetrating and shooting and Nenad Kristic still developing a post game, Harrington would be a perfect man to play on the blocks when the fastbreak isn't working. The only thing I really wouldn't want to give up is Antoine Wright. I love the kid's game. He is an excellent shooter and would be a primary backup for Carter and or Jefferson. But I would be very excited to see Harrington come up to New Jersey. In my eyes it would put them over the top. This just shouldn't be blown out of proportion, I haven't even seen a link yet. But we do know Atlanta is shopping Harrington and New Jersey needs a power forward. </font>

So the Hawks would add another swingman? At least Harrington has a PF's game, though he's really a SF/PF tweener, but adding another swingman when they have Johnson, Smith, Childress, Marvin, and even Donta Smith is kinda dumb.
