Stromile Turning Heads I've heard so many reasons why we shouldn't have gotten Stro. Mainly from angry Grizzlie fans (hmm, I wonder why). Earlier in the summer we had heated debates about Stro. I've always stated that his role on this team would be probably the EASIEST job he has in his life. All he has to do is rebound, hit wide open jumpers, and block shots (what he does best). Tmac and Yao would do all the hard work, and Stro's job would be to play off them. For some reason, people thought I was out of mind for wanting Swift. Fast foward a couple months later, we nail Swift. He comes in his first preseason game, and hits his first "wide open" jumper. 2nd posession, "blocks" Tim Duncan's shot, comes down and throws down a NASTY dunk off a pretty Tmac assist. 3rd posession, blocks Tim Duncan AGAIN, then blocks Robert Horry, gets the "rebound" comes down and gets ANOTHER pretty 360 layup off a Tmac alley hoop. He finished with like 15 and 6 in less than 20 minutes of play. DAMN it feels good to be right. I wonder where are all Stro haters now?
Ever since I saw STRO's two handed dunk straight over top Yao's outstretched arm last year, I was amazed at his leaping ability. This guy can jump out the gym. And I have also been saying he is a great fit along side Yao. Between them two and Deke we should be up there in blocks per game.

How would you like it had Swift played worse than Ryan Bowen and a Swift "hater" made a thread like this? Doesn't reflect much on your part. I was a Swift "hater", and I have to say I still am. That aside, signing him for just under $30 million is a great deal. Had we used Mehmet Okur-money on him, I'd be mad, but the money we got him for is at least reasonable. Even though Swift played very well in one preseason game, Howard has been equally as impressive. In acquiring Swift, all we get is a backup and future starting power forward. What if that money had been spent on Donyell Marshall or Chris Andersen? Then again, at least we didn't get Antoine Walker.

I gurantee if you saw that game, you would have had change of heart about Swift.

I'm not offended if you'd been taking a shot at me. I don't care if I was wrong. If I get ridiculed and the Rockets win, I'm cool with it. Yes, I haven't seen Swift play in a Rockets uniform yet, but I'll have plenty of chances to see him and change my position about his acquisition. If he really helps us win and brings in a positive attitude and work ethic every day, I'm happy.

i've wanted swift on our team ever since his rookie year. I went to a rockets game with my friends and i was sitting directly behind the memphis bench. We talked alotta crap to the players and we were making fun of this nobody named stromile swift when he was on the defensive end of the court. He came back down and did a monster two-handed jam on kelvin cato and looked directly at me. That's when i realized how athletic he was. He will be a great player now that he is in the right situation.

Only 1 person acctually knew who he was, but thats not the point. Now, I think he is entitled to make this thread, maybe just change the wording to be a little more respectable, but thats it. I remember everyone was bitching about this deal. There weren't many that supported Swift for some reason. I remember Rock4Life was sticking up for the guy, and saying what he brang to the team is something we needed/could use...something like that. Now that hes right (i know its only one game, but those moves don't just come without skill) he should have bragging rights. I know I sound like an ass, but I can't always be nice. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting KfrumHTOWN!:</div><div class="quote_post"> i've wanted swift on our team ever since his rookie year. I don't remember bitching about us getting him. I've had him on the Rockets in every recent basketball game since his rookie year. Stromile will bring out the best of the Rockets hopefully nothing negative happens to him.
I think Stromile will make the Rockets even better and now with rafer alston and DA I can see some amazing plays and fast breaks ahead. Frickin 2 Blocks on Tim Duncan!! his arm extension is just amazing.
Stro played great today too..although he had some turnovers. Damn im liking what im seeing from Stro. He had 5 assists in the Seattle game. 5. We knew he'd help out, but we didn't know he'd help OTHER players score.."FLYING RYAN!!" hahahaha! I love Bowen man!
I'm not a Stro hater, but I just thought that the other rumoured PF signings for the Rocket's were better than Stro. I always knew that Stro wold be great at the right price, and hey, we got the right price. I think Donyell would've fit into a better role for the rockets, and the only thing Stro had over him, in my books, was his age. Yet I'm still very happy with Stro. He is great for us!!
Swift was always the best fit for us. SAR is another howard, marshall is so old, and we never had a shot at anderson. Swift's blocking will be real effective. Juwan howard doesnt even know what that word means.

I wish NJ would've gotten him, we would be sick because he would fit in great over there. Greta pickup for you guys though, I see big things for the Rockets.
Second game for him of the preseason. Swift comes off the bench and dominates. A couple of nasty dunks, rebounds, and even a couple of pretty assist to Ryan Bowen (out of all people). Yao and Tracy didn't play, so he was the first option on offense. Swift showed again why he's a Houston Rocket. Played about 20 minutes, and scored a easy 17pts. I know it's preseason, but Swift has been playing GREAT. I expected him to struggle at first, but he hasn't showed any signs of struggle. The Rockets have got the steal of the offseason.................

Still NJ is doing great, but damn he seems like he would have fit better there. Now I know why NJ was after him. Rock4Life, your welcome. "A couple of nasty dunks, rebounds, and even a couple of pretty assist to Ryan Bowen (out of all people)" Yea that was some crazy shiz. I was watching this game as I was watching the stros, and I couldn't believe how much of a hustla bowen is. He thrives to improve and it would be nice to have more people like Bowen.
I agree with you...i think that he will easily become the breakout player of the year. It doesn't matter who we start at power forward. with howard: One of the best mid range jumpers in league rebounding great player and leadership with stro athletisism hieght and superb shotblocking clean up offensive rebounding anything above the rim resulting in dunks Then we have shooting gaurd which im happy to say Wesley did better yesterday. Luther Head has stepped up. We have legitamate backups for every position except Tmac's backup, but who needs one.
I love Stro and what he brings for us...he's so AGGRESSIVE...he's a great shotblocker and runs the floor extremely well...his athleticism opens up the court on both ends for the Rockets...he can guard the 4 or 5 spots and plays with an intensity that we've been desperate for at the power forward position...I sure hope he ends up starting because he's the perfect complement alongside Yao, and that frontline would be dangerous defensively! Seeing his hard work and dedication AFTER practice shows a commitment to improving and a desire to reach his vast potential...I cant wait to see what more he has to offer...
