Not to say I didn't think he would be good for the Rockets, I was skeptical. After seeing him play in person in Vancouver, I was not overly impressed. He has unlimited athleticism but not a high basketball IQ. Hopefully he learns from JVG and he can thrive in this system. The good thing is we still have Howard if things don't pan out as well as ppl hope.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TmacGarnett:</div><div class="quote_post">We have legitamate backups for every position except Tmac's backup, but who needs one.</div> With the way Ryan Bowen played last game we might have that too. He's only gonna need to play a few minutes anyway. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting johnny33:</div><div class="quote_post">He has unlimited athleticism but not a high basketball IQ.</div> I know preseason play shouldn't be read into too much but his bball IQ has seemed pretty good so far. He's made some good decisions and some excellent plays. The only stupid thing he did was try and get a rebound when Mutombo was around
i wouldn't read too much into Swift's pre-season play.. If he provides athleticism and shotblocking from the 4 spot and the ability to keep up with the quicker, more athletic PF's in the West then his signing was a plus for the Rockets this season. I don't expect a breakout season from him, but good totals like 11-12 points 8 rebounds 1.5 blocks a game while splitting time with Juwan Howard is probably what we should expect. And TMac's probable backup this season will primarily be Derek Anderson who should be able to fill the 5-10 mins a game TMac is on the bench.
i don't agree with anderson backing up tracy.. i'd say jon barry cause he doesn't get any minutes now that we got luther/andersno..
Jon Barry at small forward won't do any good. He is already finding it hard to guard shooting guards, so when he's matched up against guys 6-8 and taller, he'll be eaten alive. Although Anderson is a tall as Barry, he has the quickness and versatility to suffice as a backup. Barry I think would get about 10 minutes backing up both guard spots.
I'm sorry. The more I watch Wesley, the more I'm convinced that DA should be starting. Even Head, a rookie, is shooting better than Wesley. Back to the topic, Stromile played great again last night. 12pts and 9rebs in under I think 15 minutes. He also had a nasty dunk on the baseline. I really really like this kid, and I truly believe that we got a steal from Memphis................
Although I'm curious as to why he only played 9 minutes tonight against the Hornets (it could be because he picked up 3 quick fouls), I've been very impressed with the Stro Show...averaging 15 points, 6 boards and 2 blocks this preseason...I really hope he can keep up those performances because if he can give us that on a consistent basis we will be very hard to beat... As for Bowen, he's a great defender and superb hustle player but the guy is a huge liability offensively...I really wish he had a more consistent jumper...if this guy isnt shooting a layup or dunk, I always cringe...I surely hope JVG doesnt consider him a full-time rotation player because hes more suited for a limited role off the bench...
I think Bowen would be somewhat of a defensive stopper for us this season. He can guard both the perimeter and the post, and his hustle is very endearing to fans. His offense is terrible though. Bowen does run the floor well and can finish on the break, but unless he extends his range to the three point line and start hitting open shots at a consistent basis, teams will continue leaving him open on the perimeter.

It seems to me that he enjoys playing PF more than Center. He hasn't even played many minutes, but his numbers are good. I'm glad we got him, I knew he was going to be good pick up.

He use to play well at this position. Swift could as well, that is if Juwan is playing PF. I like having a lineup that has so many possibilities. Big, Fast, Small...
