<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Broken down, the offense Walsh (Ohio) University utilized during its run to last season's NAIA Division II national championship really was rather simplistic.
"At Walsh," big man Robert Whaley said, "it was almost like, 'Let Rob post up and give him the ball.' "
These days, the playbook Whaley operates from is a tad thicker.
The Jazz have multiple options to consider each trip down the floor, specified tasks to perform and times to merely get out of the way, and for a kid who came from a school that rarely did anything more complex than get Rob the rock, it can all be quite overwhelming.
"Not even a comparison. Now, it's more complicated," said Whaley, a late second-round selection in last June's draft hoping to turn his only partially guaranteed contract into a career lasting far beyond one NBA training camp. "It's a team-oriented thing ? which is a big learning process for me.
"My biggest challenge," Whaley added, "is probably me being so confused on the plays. I never really had to deal with so many plays."
Slowly but certainly, though, Whaley is emerging from the fog.</div>
