My fellow friends and I are making a huge sign that simply puts retire 25 in the upper deck, and also we will hang this banner every home game. Please make more signs for the opener to urge this to make it happen. Nick Anderson deserves the respect, also the magic will have suggestion boxes open to season ticket holders, please put that as one of your suggestions as well. thanks - main man

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES! He was the first face of this franchise. He was our longest lasting member and made a great impact with us. He was also a great guy in the community. I don't understand what's taking so long to retire his number. Great post, great idea and hopefully it will work.

Didn't he leave on bad terms? Anyway, I think his number should be retired and I think he should be the first to get his number retired.

haha everyone leaves the magic on bad terms. We are also making shirts so please support it and maybe if enough fans pull through it can happen.

Anderson left on good terms. He wanted to go play with Jason Williams, and the Magic were in a transition stage.

While some Magic fans will say yes, I do not think Anderson deserves to have his jersey retired. While he was our first draft choice ever (not No. 1, but first draftee ever taken), and while he has had the longest career here, Anderson was never an all-star, never on a championship team, and never won an NBA season award. I believe the retiring of a jersey should be reserved for hall of fame OR near-hall of fame players, but not for a player who, while might be locally famous, never really had a superb, superstar-type career. When you retire a player's number, it means no one can ever wear it again. I just don't believe Anderson was so much of an impact on our franchise that it should warrant the retiring of his jersey. I would have to say the same thing for Darrell Armstrong, who never had an all-star type career either. I'd save the retiring of a jersey for players such as O'Neal or McGrady (assuming they had played here longer than they did).

On another note, here's what I think the Magic should do. Create a "Magic Hall of Fame" where players who made significant contributions to the franchise could be honored. Dedicate a spot in the arena for this hall of fame, maybe where every hall of fame member's names are on a wall or something like that. Then players like Nick Anderson, Darrell Armstrong, Scott Skiles, etc. could be remembered and honored for their place in Magic-lore without having to retire their jerseys.

I think retiring Nick's jersey makes a whole lot more sense than, say, NY retiring Houston's jersey...after all, Nick was a pioneer for the franchise and isnt he their alltime leading scorer? he holds tons of Magic records so I believe that it only makes sense that his number is retired...
