<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">SAN DIEGO - The Charlotte Bobcats call these preseason "maintenance" injuries, as in "maintain your body now, because the games that count are still 10 days away."

The Bobcats sat three of their top seven players Sunday, so leading the Los Angeles Lakers at halftime was a bit of a feat. Kobe Bryant (25 points) finally put them away, hitting a 15-footer with 50 seconds left for a 98-97 final score.

The sick call Sunday: Small forward Gerald Wallace sat out with the sore left heel that has troubled him since training camp. Point guard Brevin Knight (sore right elbow) and power forward Melvin Ely (sore left shin) also stayed in street clothes.

With about two minutes left, reserve center Jake Voskuhl limped off the court with an apparent left ankle sprain.

Emeka Okafor might as well not have played because he was in foul trouble throughout. He picked up his fifth foul five minutes into the third quarter.</div>
