League officials voted for Jerry West to be the model of the NBA logo because he was highly regarded around the league.

Having West in the logo is a good choice. Just wanted to know who else was considered for it. While I was googling, I came across this in an espn article how the nba logo would look like with iverson on it. [IMG]

Anyone think that it's time for a logo change? This is a serious question.

Obviously Stern is trying to change the image of the league, but don't you think that the face of the league (the logo) should actually be one that represents the majority? Shooting is a lost art, and the male caucasian jump shooter is rarely more than a role player nowadays.

Stern, Barkley, and others close to the league don't hesitate to acknowledge that the league is mostly young black males. Why not have a face that represents them.

Better yet, why not have a logo without any race implied whatsoever? The NBA is a lot like America, a melting pot of cultures. Jerry West hasn't been forgotten, but also hasn't been learned about by the new generation. I would love a logo change.

I don't think that's the kind of image improvement Stern is going for.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AIFan:</div><div class="quote_post">too bad he has none of those tattoo's nor does he wear hoop earrings or a choker[IMG]</div>

First off, I think it was made as a joke, and was to be understood as one, but then again, he's makin' fun of your boy, so I understand where you're coming from. But in the future, try not to be quite so touchy about it.

Next, David Stern doesn't think that the league being "black" is a bad thing, he just thinks it doesn't get him or his constituents as much money as it could. I don't know if too many people realize this, but the vast majority of discretionary income in this country is spent by white people.

Obviously, buying tickets to a basketball game is categorized under discretionary. That being the case, why wouldn't he want to tap into that market again?

I've said it a hundred times, and I'll say it again, the NBA is a major multi-national corporation, and major multi-national corporations only have one thing on their mind. And it isn't whether the players are black or white.

</div>It was a bad depiction, I didn't find it funny, you don't like that opinion, that's fine, but telling someone what they should or shouldn't do when you have absolutely no control over it is just asinine.

I didn't say I didn't like that opinion, and let's not act hastily. I was actually just poking a little fun, and meant no harm. As for your opinion of me, leave it out of the boards please. If you have an issue, I would be happy to take it up with you in a PM.

LOL, I hope not. But now that we have revealed the history of the logo, can we let this thread die?

I think they should get one of today's SuperStars, have a photoshoot for the new logo, and never reveal who it is. That would be nice. Heck, it could be Kobe, Wade, Mac, Bron, etc. and only someone who really studies the image would know... I even doubt that, actually...

AIFan - Take it easy man. I didnt mean to make fun at AI for that logo..

BTW, Who's on the justbball logo?

KG/Kobe? That could be a good new NBA logo.

In my opinion, if they ever decide to replace the logo, I'd put MJ on it.
