Aside form the usual candidates for MVP i.e TD, KG, Shaq. Both Kobe and Lebron are being mentioned as possible candiates for this season's MVP. They both came off last season on teams that failed to make the playoffs and both were able to put up some good numbers. This season they are both on re-organized teams and looking to make it into the playoffs, but out of the 2 who do you think has the better chance at winning the 06 MVP? I've got my own opinion on this.

Lebron James does. A most valuable player award is really a team award not an award for a individual talent. For example a guy could lead the league in multiple statistical categories, but if his team does not make the playoffs with a high seed he will not get the votes over a guy who put up decent numbers on a high seeded team. James is leading a Cavalier team with a ton of talent and potential they could get home court, and will most likely finish some where in the top five in the eastern conference. While Kobe Bryant although in my opinion the best shooting guard in the NBA, is leading a Lakers team that is in the rebuilding mode. There are many who have them not even making the playoffs. Should they make the playoffs (even Lakers fans think) it will be with a seventh or eighth seed, that is not enough to get him votes over players like Mcgrady, James, O’Neal, Wade, Duncan, etc who’s teams will all probably finish with home court in the playoffs or a top five seed.

The Cavs are almost certainly playoff bound this year, while the Lakers are a question mark. So, I'd say Lebron.

But if Kobe leads his team into the playoffs with good stats, I think he will have a bigger chanse since the help from his teammates probably wont be as good as LeBrons help.

    Agreed with durvasa.

But if Kobe can make some some noise this season and guide LA back to the playoffs, he has a shot.

Same feeling, if Kobe gets to the playoffs he will win. But I don't think he will, so LeBron will win it this year.

You have to have a Top team in your conference at least. I don't see the Lakers even being over 5th place, so while Kobe will get some votes, he's not going to win MVP over Lebron if his team isn't more succesful. Just getting to the playoffs is not even close to being a big enough accomplishment to get MVP, unless Tmac should've won in 02-03 when he averaged 32-6-5 and had a garbage team.

If Hughes doesn't miss 20 games like always, the Cavs could be 3rd in the East record wise, which would also get him votes, but not an MVP. He would get more votes than Kobe though, so I'd say Lebron.

Lebron by far is on his way to his first of many possible MVPs. Im looking for the cavs to have the type of break out year that the phoenix suns had last year. It is very possible that with Lebron running the "point foward" position, he could average his 25 points, 8 rebounds and 9-10 assists. Remember Larry Hughes will be running neck and neck with him on those fast breaks

The cavs will probably make the playoffs, but I think LeBrons stats will be lower than last season.

exactly what i would have said. lakers aren't going anywhere, cavs are, bron has the better chance between the two.

It would be quite funny though sad also if the Cavs didn't make the playoffs this year.

I think it will depend on the performaces of both teams. If lakers suprise everyone and make playoffs and play well then Kobe will win. But if Cavs do really good it might be Lebron. But you never know it could be Wade or somone totatly unexpected to win it.
