Oops, just posted something about this in another thread, didn't notice you had it here. Seems to me like not much to get in return for a quality center. I thought that it was reported TOR attempted to ship them the #7 and #16 pick in last years draft for him, but NO turned it down. Now they get two years of Des, when they will be terrible anyway, and a pick that might not even be lottery??? Just seems their had to be a better deal being floated around for NO.
Im from OKC so this is very very exciting for me. Going to be awesome to get to go see Desmond play again. Cage im sure you are right this wasnt the best deal on the table for the Hornets. Although I dont think this is a real bad deal for the Hornets (assuming they had to trade Magloire) but marketing clear played a role. Bring the Hornets down here to OKC and bring in possibly the best player to play college in Oklahoma in probably the last 10 years? Seems like more then a coincidence then me. And just to take a little credit for this I was talking to a friend the other day about how sense the Hornets arent going to win they should go out and sign Hollis Price or Stephen Graham to help bring people in. Then they pull this off.....I think my house is bugged
Weird trade...Magloire was a pretty much overrated center with limited scoring abilites but overall a solid center...to the Bucks who already have Andrew Bogut...very weird. Desmond Mason, Michael Redd, Andrew Bogut and Bobby Simmons and TJ Ford was a good starting lineup but no...they had to bring in Magloire...this trade does not benefit either team if you ask me.

Des was simply the odd man out after the Simmons signing. Its a solid move for the Bucks - a center who's a double double threat every night isn't easy to come by - but I agree that it seems a little weird considering they just drafted Bogut. Just a flat out baffling move by NO though - makes absolutely no sense at all.
Damn it, I drafted Bogut and dropped DMase on my fantasy team two weeks ago - I wonder if they play on playing Bogut of Magloire for stints at the four? I do agree though, sign and trade for Dez next offseason
I quite like this trade from New Orleans' point of view. They have a young team, and the presence of someone who doesn't want to be there is only going to be a bad thing for guys like Chris Paul and JR Smith. Bringing in Dez means they bring in a great professional and a guy who will be a terrific influence on their young guys. They weren't going anywhere this season with or without Magloire anyway. If things don't go as planned in Milwaukee this season, the Hornets may end up with a second lottery pick, ala Charlotte (with Cleveland's pick) in the draft just gone.
Senator Kohl must be cringing about the 40 million dollars that are still guaranteed to Dan Gadzuric. Good move by both teams. Dez will help with the running game and team marketing in Oklahoma City. The draft pick will give N.O. some hope for the future. And Magloire being gone will give some of the younger underachieving players an opportunity to prove themselves. If you are going to be the worst team in the league, what is the point of keeping an underachieving center who is going to leave when he is a free agent anyway? Could they have gotten more? Probably. But Dez is a good fit and the draft picks could pay big dividends down the road (if there are any more good players in college). Milwaukee really sured up their frontcourt, but lost an incredible asset off of the bench. Bogut was an early favorite for ROY but this signing will make it that more difficult for him to put up stellar stats. If Magloire can play at his best Milwaukee should have an opportunity to contend for the 4th spot in the East. But for a small market team their management of the salary cap isn't the model for which other small markets should copy.

Probably</div> Well that was my whole line of thinking behind why I don't like the move for NO, it wasn't moving him in th first place, its what they got back. One thing this trade does is put alot on the shoulders of Bobby Simmons - I guess he deserves it after that contract, but the bench is extremely thin at the 1,2, and 3 spots. I guess I just think that a double doubleish center doesn't come along often - and even if your going to trade big for small, you've got to at least pull in a second rounder a few years down the road to sell me on how its going to make your team that much better in the future. The pick probably has some restrictions on it, and may not even be a lottery selection for all we know.

It would be fitting if the bucks missed the playoffs and won the lotto, only to have traded it away for Magloire a season after beating no so good odds and winning it in 2005.
was just thinking about this trade, and not to put too much stock in it, but I think its interesting that in a roundabout way, the Bucks traded: Ray Allen, Luke Ridnour, Ronald Murray, cash for Jamaal Magloire and a first round pick
We got our current backcourt rotation for Dez pretty much, given the chances of GP returning were pretty remote. Funny how the media thought Milwaukee got the best of the deal at the time too.
