<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">My reason for coming out now isn't to be some sort of hero. It's not something that I want to throw in people's faces. I'm just at a point in my life where I'm tired of having to pretend to be somebody I'm not.

I'm tired of having to hide my feelings about the person I care about. About the person I love. Some people might say my coming out after just winning the MVP Award is heroic, and I understand that. And I know there are going to be some negative things said, too. But it doesn't change who I am. I can't help who I fall in love with. No one can.

Sheryl Swoopes has been with her partner, former college standout Alisa Scott, for eight years.

I didn't always know I was gay. I honestly didn't. Do I think I was born this way? No. And that's probably confusing to some, because I know a lot of people believe that you are. </div>

What are your feelings on the issue?

Personally, I say she's still a basketball player, and still mighty talented, so what's the big shakes?

I always liked girls that like girls. [IMG]

But seriously, this shouldn't stir any controversy or make any noise. This is her personal life and it has nothing to do with basketball. So hopefully she won't get any heat for this. I'm sure there are tons more of WNBA players that prefer female partners over male parnters.

Btw, why does the link to the source direct me to microsoft.com? I wanted to find out if Sheryl companion is a fellow WNBA player.

Congrats to her. We've always wondered what would happen if a major star came out, and in her league, she is just that. Maybe this will help make it more acceptable for others to be who they are.

I'll fix that, I don't know why it did that, but for your info, she's not. She played in college, and now she coaches, but not in the WNBA.

    EDIT: Fixed.

this shouldn't be a suprise, i've heard estimates that 70-80% of WNBA players are actually lesbians, at least according to scoop jackson.

This doesent bother me, but to speak the truth, I would have more of a reaction if it was a NBA player.

Oh, same here pal. The WNBA literally means <u>nothing</u> to me, I couldn't give less of a care about it. And to learn that a WNBA player is a lesbian is no big surprise, hence my belief that this isn't even a story.

On the other hand, if an NBA player came out, I can tell you, I'd probably feel the same way. Estimates by researchers in America say that 1 out of every 5 people born in US these days will be involved in same sex relations in their time, so what's the big deal? It's starting to become relatively normal. Accepted is another issue, but its normality is hardly in question.

In my view, it should only be an issue for some teammates who might feel uncomfortable sharing a locker room or shower with homosexuals.

I think the NBA wouldn't like it if one of their start athletes came out, given all their efforts to portray a specific image that appeals to the conservative fan base.

I think Shaq will be the first NBA player to come out of the closet. I give Swoopes alot of credit for coming out she showed alot of heart by doing that.
And I do like girl on girl action so rock on!!
