there are rumors going around that the lakers are going to trade jones to charlotte for a future second round pick. what do you guys all think of this?
it's official: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Charlotte Bobcats acquired forward Jumaine Jones on Wednesday from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a future second-round pick. Jones, who averaged 7.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and shot .391 from 3-point range last season, will give Charlotte much-needed depth at small forward. Gerald Wallace is the starter and second-year player Bernard Robinson has not challenged him for playing time. "Jumaine Jones is a versatile player who provides a different dimension to our front-court positions and will help us in many ways on both ends of the floor," coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "He is a proven outside shooter and has shown success rebounding the ball." Jones ranked 18th in the NBA in 3-point percentage last season, making 102 of 261 attempts. He started 23 games and scored a season-high 25 points against Orlando on Dec. 12. Jones played college ball at Georgia and was drafted 27th overall by Atlanta in 1999. His rights were traded to Philadelphia, and Jones played in 377 games with the 76ers, Cleveland, Boston and the Lakers. </div> link:http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews...rs/13003153.htm
I think we could have done much better, perhaps trading him to NY or atleast have Charlotte throw in another player in the deal. Jones rebounding and points are worth more...
How could they trade Kareem Rush for 2 2nd Round Draft Picks, and Jones only for one? Last time I checked, Jones was worth more and is better. Also, why don't we use the excess money to help get a contract for Spree? As you can see, I'm all about getting Sprewell in a Laker uniform.
Anyway, it would be nice if the Lakers did something like what the Spurs and Wizards did with that pick--drafted Manu Ginobili or signed undrafted free agent Ben Wallace respectively.
I actually like this deal because this way Jumaine will get mroe playing time and maybe could find his niche that would keep him in the league. I really like jones so I really like this deal but from the Lakers perspective it isnt bad either because they get a second rounder and IMO secound rounders require more attention then first rounders.
We really did get nothing in return for JJ. I would have prefered to keep him and offload some other players. Perhaps Luke Walton instead? JJ is an unappreciated talent on our roster, he can do so much when given a chance.
Jumaine Jones traded <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) - Forward Jumaine Jones is returning to the Eastern Conference. I dont think they should had traded him. They should had traded Slava, or Sasha. Jones played alot for us last year. But owell, mayba we can get someone good in the draft this year.

Something, which that did not have. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I dont think they should had traded him. They should had traded Slava, or Sasha. YES! I liked Jumaine Jones, but he's been the odd man out all preseason and this is better for both him and the Lakers. This was the final year of his deal so the chances are he wouldn't be back. There's just not enough minutes for him behind Odom/George/Walton, and he doesn't have the guard skills to play PG in the Triangle. Adding a second round pick allows the Lakers to have a space for Devin Green (hopefully). He's the type of player perfect for developing because he is fundamentally sound and very athletic. Once he develops a consistent jump shot he'll have some impact as a role player on the Lakers squad. Unfortunately, the Lakers are thin upfront and Slava is one of the few big men on the bench. He's also familiar with the Tri offense and PJax knows what he will get from him (or lack there of) when he steps onto the court. I think Sasha is only around because of ego and the slim hope he can still develop. Mitch and the organization isn't ready to admit he was a wasted pick. The D-League would be a good place for him to go, so he find his confidence again. The D-League is a "guard" friendly environment so Sasha will have a lot of opportunities to display his skills there. Hopefully he learns how to play defense, too.
Yeah Sasha could spend some time there, although his game against the Kings was the most impressive hes had so far, so I think the shimmer of hope is definately still there..
