Some guy posted a rumor about Dun possibly being traded to Orlando. Nobody believed him and called him an idiot. I just found this...

    http://www.detnews.com/2005/pistons/0510/28/sport-364323.htm

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Over the last couple of days, a new wrinkle has come to the bargaining table -- a wrinkle named Mike Dunleavy.

The Warriors fourth-year forward is also working on a five-year extension, and reports out of Golden State believe Dunleavy wants a $50 million deal.

The Warriors, it is believed, have offered him a deal closer to $40 million.</div>

Mullin caved in for Murph, Foyle and Fisher. I like Dunleavy but 50 million is a lot for a glue guy.

I believe the deal was Dun/Fish/1st for Turkoglu/Nelson/Cato or Battie. Things are starting to get interesting.

It'll be interesting to see how things go. I personally wouldn't mind some changes. Either Dunleavy signs for what he's worth (which isn't much) orhe gets the hell out of here.

Where did you get that Olando rumor? I couldn't see in that article.

BTW, contract doesn't match if we get Cato, while we don't add any salary besides Fisher and Dunleavy.

For me, I would never sign a player who can't create his own shot or can't defend with 8 mils per year, and certainly anywhere near close to 10 mils.

6 mils is his market value for his talent.
7 mils is bit overpaid, but understandable
    8 mils is overpaid
9 mils is the amount I predicted and the case of "What were you smoking when you signed that deal"
    10 mils can happen if...
Mullin lost most of his brain cells and can't function as a GM
Dunleavy's agent happens to be a mob boss
Mullin, Dunleavy, and his agent decided to swindle Cohan and split the money.

Seriously, if we sign Dunleavy now, we will not only lose Pietrus, we will bound to overpay Dunleavy, because there really is no way for him to sign 6 mils per year. That's why I wish Mullin to not sign Dunleavy right now, and sign him according to market value next year, when he is restricted FA.

I am looking at the deadline, hoping that we won't hear any extention news...

Just food for thought, I was looking at the 2002 draft, and I realized something. You could make a great argument that Dunleavy was the fifth best player to come out of that draft.

Here's how I would rank them:

    1. Stoudemire (#9)
    2. Yao (#1)
    3. Prince (#23)
    4. Boozer (#35)
    5. Dunleavy (#3)

Now you can make a compelling argument that Drew Gooden, Nene, and Caron Butler are all as good or better than Dunleavy. But looking at the numbers, both potential and production, I'd say that Dunleavy is, at worst, on par with these three.

So in that sense, I think it's time to stop saying Dunleavy was a bad pick. '02 is going to go down in the books as a fairly disappointing draft. There were a lot of guys with potential, but none of them have panned out.

Now, as far as resigning Dunleavy goes, I don't think you'll find anyone who says Dunleavy is worth 40 mil over five years, let alone 45 or 50. As big a fan of Dunleavy as I am, I'd say let him walk if he won't sign for 30-35 mil.

I REALLY hope Mullin doesn't cave and give Dunleavy a contract before the season starts.

He becomes a restricted FA so we can match whatever other teams offer him. And if teams offer him squat we can match and keep him and if they offer 8 mil, I'll be laughing my ass off at them.

I hope we dont sign him this summer. If we love him that much we will match or pay more than any other team, but at this point I do not want to sign him at all costs. If Mullin caves in like he did last year I am going to be PISSED. For that price I would MUCH rather have Prince. Just like the article said about how Prince lighted him up for 7 straight shots. Dun is horrible defensively compared to Prince.

LOL take that rumor for what it's worth, grain of salt. Some poster claims to have a "source". For all we know he could be some sixteen year old girl making them up but to give him some credit he did come up with the Orlando trade scenario before it was even known Dunleavy and the W's aren't coming to terms & has nailed a few deals in the past. Information can't hurt.

I also agree Dunleavy wasn't a bad pick in that draft, just look at how weak the draft was. The only player I would take over him would have been Amare, Nene and maybe Prince. Prince is clearly outperforming Dunleavy but I don't see him getting much better and I do see Dunleavy getting better when his body fills out further.

I would overpay to keep Dunleavy but we're so far in salary cap hell and have so many problems to deal with that spending 50 million on Dun is risky. It means we have to start clearing bad contracts ASAP. Teams will know we're over the luxury cap and come negotiation we'll be in a position of weakness.

that's a pretty realistic view of Dunleavy's market value....maybe even a bit too generous.
A deal would not need to fully match-we have a trade exception still

Turkoglu/Nelson/Cato is a very good deal for Dun/Fish/1st. I've gotten so fed up with Fisher to the point I'd sacrifice a pick to throw the Fish back into the lake. And besides, we wouldn't have a lotto pick with the new lineup.

    Baron/ Nelson/ Ellis/ Miles
    Richardson/ Pietrus/ Ellis
    Pietrus or Turkolgu/ Cabarkapa
    Murphy/ Diogu/ Turkolgu
    Foyle/ Biedrins/ Cato

I'd be happy with that deal. Nelson is going to be a special soon and would be such a great contrast from trigger happy Fisher. Turkolgu is a great sixth man, hell he could start for us at SF. Only problem there is Cato, his contract and experience could potentially take away time from Biedrins seeing how generous Monty is to the kids. I'd be more than happy to see that deal go through. However, I would question the crediblity. On my board this guy signed up and turns out he started the KG for the Detroit Wallaces rumor on another board. And since this hasn't been reported, chances are that this rumor is BS or some day-dream.

Prince got 5 yrs / $47m which I find overpaying.

Dunleavy deserves 5 yrs / $30m but Mullin will give him 5 yrs / $45m. [IMG]

Mullin is no fool. If Dunleavy's agent wants a deal now,he'd say $30mil for 5. Talking 9 mill and up is just posing, way unrealistic. NOBODY pays that,as Dun could only win a starter job on a very few teams in the league. The W's KNOW Dunleavy does not have the game,NOW,to even see an offer of $7 mill from anyone else. They may think he MIGHT develop enough to hit that level. Paying too much for a guy who may not even hang onto a starter job is something teams are wary of,and we already learned our lesson with Fisher.

yeah, if Prince got $47 mil, the lowest Dunleavy would get is $37 mil, and more likely $40-42 mil, which is about a mil a year more than I'd spend on Dunleavy.

Just some food for thought for anyone who says the Warriors should have taken Prince over Dunleavy: if Dunleavy signs for $37 mil and the Warriors find a way to move Fish's contract, they could probably keep Pietrus and Biedrins as well. If the Warriors drafted Prince and signed him to the deal he just got, there's no way the Warriors could keep him, Pietrus (similar game to Prince), and Biedrins.

Are you sure Mullin isn't a fool? Do you remember the deals he gave out last year? He overpaid for Foyle and Fisher, and an argument could be made that he overpaid for Murphy too.

I think it's very likely that Mullin gives Dunleavy $42-45 over five years. All Dunleavy's agent has to do is point to Prince's contract and Murphy's contract and say, "look the deals these guys got, Dunleavy's in the same class, this is what the market pays, so pay up."

Mullin can't pay less than what the market is bearing now, so the only chance he has at getting Dunleavy for less is waiting until next summer and letting the market set Dunleavy's price. Personally, I really like that strategy. It gives Mullin another year to evaluate Dunleavy, Pietrus, and Zarko to see which one or two of the three he wants to keep. It will also give him time to figure out if there's a guy in the draft he could take to replace Dunleavy.

While it's true that Fisher is overpaid. The others are all up for debate. Foyle could prove to be a slightly overpaid player if he playes the way he finished the season last year. Also, his presence in the locker-room and work ethic amongst the younger players surely has contributed to the character of the team.

Murphy does not deserve his contract in my opinion, but I think Mullin took a good calculated risk. Both he and JRich were a package deal, being that they have the same agent. If 1 of them improved a lot and the other maintained his productivity (which is pretty much what happened) then you end up with one underpaid player and one slightly overplaid player. If they both improved, then you have 2 underpaid player.

Also, this signing was before Davis showed up, which meant that the chances that both of their numbers dropped was slim, which meant that if 1 guy blew up, that he could be packaged in a trade if a total rebuild was necessary. Also, a slightly overpaid player (like Murphy) is not difficult to move in a trade.

Bottom line, all 4 of these guys are tradeable, the only one that we'd have to dump a pick or talented player along with in order to move would be Fisher. Foyle can help a team out in desperate need of a shotblocker, especially in the east.

That being said, I don't think Mullin is a fool. He's pooled together some cheap talent. Hell, even Zarko is a tradeable piece which we essentially got for nothing. We'll see how he handles this next off-season to see what kind of GM he really is

[IMG] Yup. That means no Pietrus.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Ahfg...ov=ap&type=lgns

Let's hope that Dunleavy has things figured out this year, but if he's still too darn inconsistent on offense to depend on we just lost out big time because as a defender, he's going to be giving up a lot of career highs on some nights to a bunch of NBA nobodies playing forward. Hopefully, my theory is right that if the Warriors get a big man with impact inside, he'll shine because he'll have more options where he doesn't have to create with the ball. We know he looked great passing with Dampier.

[IMG] Other than the horrible contracts hwe has given to Fish, Foyle, and Dun (I dont think J-Rich or Murphy were overpaid and Dun's isnt too bad) he has done a very good job of drafting and trading. The contracts that he gives to our role players have really ruined his reputation among Warrior fans. We probably need to get rid of at least Fisher and either Murphy or Foyle if we dream of keeping 2 of either Beans, Diogu, or Monta. Zarko and Pietrus are gone if they demand any decent sized contracts, Taft may be too if he turns out to be pretty good.

Now we have no cap space to keep Pietrus or other players unless we unload some contracts, ie Fisher.

Godamn Mullin, he's giving us 5 more years of this:

Thats the best his defense gets.

I gues there was not much of a choice for Mullin. Keep Pietrus or Dun, and if I have to chose, then I go with dun...

Would 40 mil deal make any diference?
