<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Akron Beacon-Journal - Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is still tight-lipped, but all signs point toward Eric Snow being the opening-night starter at point guard.

It was a battle that was supposed to be the focal point of training camp, but it didn't really turn out that way.

Snow and free-agent import Damon Jones both made it clear that they wanted to be the man at the start, but ended up having a very amicable competition.

As expected, Jones averaged more points and, after a cold start, warmed up from 3-point range. Snow, as expected, averaged more assists and fewer turnovers and played well on defense. He's taken a handful of charges and made a defensive stop on Allen Iverson that won the Cavs a preseason game.

Both started four games and played almost the same number of minutes.

Brown thinks defense first, which is why he's probably going to go with Snow to help set a defensive tone at the start of games. It also allows him to bring Jones and Donyell Marshall off the bench together, an excellent shooting tandem to change things.</div>

Snow will probably start, because of his defensive talent. But Jones wouldn't hurt coming off the bench to knock down the trey.

Agreed but the Cavs need to make sure the get Jones in there with Lebron and Ilgauskas. That way they can kick it to him from the inside so he gets a better shot and keeps the defense honest.

true if jones and marshall are just part of the second unit, and play when lebron is off then what's the point?

most of the time, starting or coming off as the 6 man aren't that much different. you get the same amount of pt, normally get the same looks, and get the same time with the core unit. personally i'd rather see snow start, little more defensive. can stick the 15 footer like its his job. but whatever they have to do to win is fine with me

Lebron plays roughly forty two minutes a game so no doubt Marshall and Jones will find time to play alongside him.

Yea I was thinking the same thing, Lebron plays 42.4 mpg and who knows he is improving and probably could play more if his conditioning continues to improve. 'Yell and D.Jones should get plenty of PT with Lebron on the court.

    Bad idea

I don't like this idea at all. Offensively the Cavs just won't work well with Z, Hughes, Gooden, Snow and LBJ together, in my opinion. LBJ and Hughes are both slashers so having either Marshall or Damon on the court at most times to kick it out to would make sense. If you figure that Marshall and Gooden will split the time pretty evenly at the PF and Snow and Damon will split evenly at the PG it would make sense to usually have Snow and Marshall and Gooden and Jones together to balance the defense (where Gooden and Snow excell) with the outside shooting (where Jones and Marshall exccell)

I also dont think it makes much sense...the idea is to have opponents spend less attention on lebron and Z..if Jones is starting, teams have to pay attention to his 3-point shooting...with Snow out there, opponents can collapse on the middle and force eric to beat them from outside...whatever they decide to do, they need a shooter in the starting lineup so I would think that either Marshall or Jones need to be starting...surely you dont want your two best 3-point shooters coming off the bench when your best slashers and post scorers are starters...

scoring wise they got to take some pressure off of lebron, snow can't score for his life and marshall is a better scorer than gooden.

Damon Jones coming of the bench is a bad idea.

If he comes in the game while Lebron and Snow are resting and starts jacking up threes it will be a problem. Every team has one out of control player, and it's not good to have that player come in with the rest of the reserves.

As it was said before, Bron plays 42 minutes a game. Everyone on the team is going to get to play with him for the majority of their time on the court. As long as Damon Jones and Donyell Marshall get a fair amount of PT it shouldn't matter whether they start or not.
