<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Neither Sund nor Weiss mentioned anything specific about Potapenko's play during the scrimmage. That may be a good sign. Potapenko might not have set any high-jump or sprint records, but he hardly looked out of place. "So far, so good," Weiss said. "He seems to be able to run." Still, Weiss said he is "leaning toward" starting rookie Johan Petro at center -- something no one would have predicted one month ago. In the interim, Petro became one of the preseason's most pleasant surprises.</div> SeattlePI
I didn't think anything could get me more excited for opening night, but Petro possibly starting does. The nice thing for us about starting Johan on wed, even if its only for one game before Vitaly gets the nod, is that he's already played significant minutes against the Clipps frontline and especially Kaman - with the time in 2 preseason games. It is better for us if Vitaly is 100% and ready to go, but if anything the up in the air feel of the starting C posistion gives me reasons to continue to scan local papers and online forums during the last few dead days when there really isn't any new news to report.
He could foul out in two minutes and I would still be excited, because that article underlines just how much progress he has made in the last month or two.

"We understood this summer that we were taking our chances," said Bauman, also Radmanovic's agent.</div> Again, I can see if Vlad wants to start and be the #2 guy somewhere passing up 6/42. But Tayshaun just signed a 7/47 or something deal and he is a much much better all around player than Vlad. If he's hoping to exceed that, Vlad is an idiot.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Roland Hood:</div><div class="quote_post">Vlad is an idiot.</div> i'm pretty sure this has already been established.
I like Petro and hearing that he's made progress and might even start is music to my ears, he's a great player and I think he could be real good with some help.

However he has a guaranteed starting role on a title contender, so why risk giving that up? As Frank Hughes said though, it bumps Vlad (and Reggie and Flip) up a notch in terms of the top free agents available next offseason.
On an unrelated note: Sir Desmond, I seriously considered using the quote in your info as my senior quote this year.
