Dunleavy plays it cool during talks Janny Hu, Chronicle Staff Writer Monday, October 31, 2005 It's decision time for the Warriors and Mike Dunleavy: If the two sides can't come to terms on a contract extension by today's 9 p.m. deadline, Dunleavy will become a restricted free agent at season's end. A month ago, the forward promised to play it cool as negotiations between his agent and Warriors' vice president Chris Mullin took place. A day before the deadline, he was keeping his word. Dunleavy stayed well after practice Sunday and looked relaxed during extra shooting drills. He joked about his clean-shaven face and dressing up as Napoleon Dynamite for Halloween. When the subject of his contract status arose, Dunleavy said he was heading in to check his messages. "He's holding up pretty damn well -- better than J-Rich or I did," forward Troy Murphy said. At this time last year, Murphy was seeking an extension along with Jason Richardson. The talks turned heavy-handed, as Murphy and Richardson, who are represented by the same agent, demanded a trade if an agreement wasn't reached. Murphy said he went straight home after practices and lay in bed waiting for a resolution. He stayed by his phone and kept checking to see that it worked. The call finally came within hours of the cut-off time. Mullin signed Murphy for six years at $58 million and Richardson for six years at $70 million. The twin pacts came on the heels of a five-year, $41 million deal for Adonal Foyle and a six-year, $37 million contract for Derek Fisher, which suggests a willingness to pay. Continued
I've just got a gut feeling that Dunleavy will sign an extension tonight and it will be in the 5 year/$42 mil range. I really hope I'm wrong though.

We can all think of the $2 million extra as the organization's "teach Dunleavy Jr. to sit like a man" fund. Well the photo I have won't show, but for anybody who saw the actual pic, they can definitely relate.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AnimeFANatic:</div><div class="quote_post">The first thing he should buy with his huge contract is a razor. He needs to cut his damn mustache.</div> Well no matter how he looks, it's all about results, I guess (Steve Nash may have lost a step or two since his Mavericks days, but he sure plays awesome enough to sport the hair and beat a tough, quick defender and sink an off-balance clutch shot in transition. He helped lead his teams all the way to the playoffs and a got a regular season MVP award last season because of it. His shooting and courtvision while on the run keeps defenses honest). While Mike Dunleavy Jr. never had the cat-like quickness, risky, uptempo style of play that Steve Nash has always had, I hope he brings impact like a slower Rashard Lewis but with playmaking skills and ballhandling like Lamar Odom. Yeah, I know there's obvious differences in terms of quickness/athleticism between Jr. and Shard/Odom as well, but the talent is there if he has the mentality to be more assertive and start making shots from everywhere (especially going inside).
