<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">WNBA MVP Sheryl Swoopes admits she's gay. And yesterday Fortson said he would have a problem with a gay teammate. "I sure would," Fortson said. "I wouldn't want to be on that team. It wouldn't be a good idea. "As athletes, we still have a grade-school mentality where we pick on people a little bit. It's not going to work with us. I don't think it's very acceptable behavior for men as far as I'm concerned." Fortson also said "he wouldn't doubt it" if there were a gay player in the NBA but hopes he's not a Sonic. "That would be a bad deal," Fortson said. "He might want to keep that one in the closet."</div> Seattle PI. He is certainly taking over Ray's role as the most quotable Sonic.
haha...funny...if he's not fine with it...that's a big of a problem...but after sayin' that,i doubt that any of his teamates(if there's any) will come out of the closet...
Not a smart move on Danny's part, making such a bold statement while he plays for a culturally diverse city such as Seattle. Whether or not we agree with what he says is irrelevent... the fact that he's making bold statements like that to the press is a little bothering. BTW: I always thought if any Sonic were to come out of the closet it would be Fortson.. I guess the pigtails were just to prove his masculinity(sp). Like wearing pink and whatnot.
My wife was perusing the Seattle Times preview to see who her new favorite Sonic is after I told her what Danny had to say. She is now asserting that Mikki Moore is "cuter" than Danny though she didn't know who he was yesterday.

I don't see what the major problem is. I played with a gay player on my high school football team, and it wasn't an issue. He wasn't a star, he didn't even start, but no one had a problem with it. We didn't act different, I didn't feel uncomfortable. I don't see why it's a huge problem. I can definitely understand the rationale for it being uncomfortablel or disagreeable. But at the same time, I don't feel like it needs to be a huge issue. I wonder if any of the NBA players upset about this "racist" dress code are also players who would hate on a gay teammate. Food for thought.

You and your teammates were comfortable with their sexuality, and didn't feel the need to 'voice their displeasure' in an attempt to sound more manly for their egos and appearance.
Seems to me that people that have the biggest problem with the issue are the ones who are the least secure with their own self. And I don't just mean with their masculinity/sexuality/whatever. I mean in terms of "fitting in" comfortably while still being who and what they are.

Im sure their are a lot of homophobes in the NBA but they should keep it to themselves. This will get them needless attention. BTW was he asked what he thought about Swoopes or did he just out of no where say what he thought?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">Have you ever heard of Vladimir Radmanovic?</div> I stand corrected.
I think that I would uncomfortable getting changed around other gay men. Maybe its just me? Imagine if half the roster was gay or something, I don't think I could play for that team.
The cumulative fines that Fortson will endure during the 2005-2006 season: $400,000. The money that Fortson has spent to adhere to the newly enforced NBA player dress code: $500. The fallout of any NBA player going on the record of having issues with Fortson's homophobia: Priceless
