Larry Brown looks really stoked about this game. Come to think of it, it just means his team has some more gelling to do. The C's were the better team when it counted, that's all. They were good, and they will probably continue to be. This game doesn't mean as much as our games against the Knicks will later in the season. But still, let's enjoy it.

What incredible clutch play by our team in overtime. All inspired by me putting on my Pierce jersey, of course. A 14 point win in OT, how often do you see that?

Yeah, and I just added Delonte West to both of my fantasy teams.

14 Point, 9 Rebounds, 9 Assists, 4 Blocks, 1 TO, all in all, he gets the Tommy, but Pierce is still player of the game. He was just unstoppable in the first half. He may have missed some key FT's, but it worked out in the end.

Hard to believe how capably Delonte answered the call at the point. We had him counted out as starter, and here he is, impressin' the hell out of us.

Way to go Redz, keep up the good play.

It was good effort for both teams. It was ashame one of the teams had to lose. Great game nonetheless. [IMG]

It's funny, every NBA preview I read said we needed a point guard. Well, boys, we have our point guard. Here's to hoping he plays half as good as he did tonight for the rest of the season.

    Agreed.

    Listen to these numbers:

9 players with an offensive rebound, 6 players with a steal, 5 players with a block, all 5 starters in double figures.

    Now that's a solid effort.

This reminds me of that '99 Magic team Doc coached, only with more leadership and star power. Perhaps two to three wins more? Let's hope.

    I won't.

And I hate to be a party pooper, but let's stay realistic. Keep up the good work though.

However, it's so early, and we have basically have nothing to go on right now.

Of course not, I was just cracking a joke. And I wouldn't say those teams look weak, just stumbling out of the blocks. The Sixers reliance on C-Webb and AI entirely for their offense has been their undoing twice. The Nets just looked a little flatter than normal (probably all that SARS they've had to endure). And somebody had to win our game. As for the Raptors, I don't know if we expected them to finish better than us, but it's only the first game of the season.

Any way you slice it, it's a welcome sight.

    Agreement

This was a fun game to watch. But it shouldn't have gone to ot. I'm not talking about Pierce missing that foul shot either. Good coaches can motivate and work tactically, and that last timeout that Doc took should never have happened. He should sent a card to his players to bail him out. I loved the overtime, but Doc scares me sometimes. I also had to watch this at a bar in New York with a bunch of Pace students who kept saying WORD! after every half decent knicks play, they would have been really cool in 1995. It made me a little bitter.
Two things were most impressive: Less fouling than by the celts than expected (even on bad rotations), and better rebounding. Keep on mind that you or I could rebound over Eddy Curry, he doesn't understand position at all. But the celts were still hustling like crazy, so I guess Doc got some of that back in the trenches.
    Scalabrine? Please.
Pierce shot twenty-four free throws, I figured that Ariza would have a field day with Pierce, but such was not to be the case. When SG said Pierce's first step was back, he was right. I, for one, missed it.
We can accept Delonte starting for a few more games now. That was a performance.
It's also true that this may be the same Mark Blount we saw before "the contract".
    I'm excited.

It was a great game by the knicks. They finally played defense and forced turnovers. They held Pierce to 3 pts in the 2nd half and grabbed more boards. solid first game for the new knicks like Q with 11 pts, Curry and 19 pts and 8 rebounds, etc. At the end of the day, they had too many 2nd chance pts. 18 offensive rebounds they let up and finally they lost because of horrible freethrow shooting. i think this game puts the knicks in the right direction of what they can do. i like the starting lineup also. Q at the 2, and Ariza should definetely be starting over Barnes. he hustles better, better scorer, and rebounder. although he got rejected by the rim. The knicks finally showed an inside presence. Davis and Curry played great in the paint. Crawford made too many turnover. Mo Taylor was automatic from outside and robinson played good too. overall great first game.

Well, first off, Pierce had 4 after the half, not 3, no big deal there. But more importantly, the C's had fewer second chance points than the Knicks. Yes, the Knicks let up 19 offensive rebounds, but not one of them went for points until the fourth quarter when Ricky put back Paul's air mail from the corner. That was also the play Antonio Davis lost his head on, and was yelling at a ref instead of playing defense, that's pretty ugly in my book.

Mo Taylor was automatic from outside, which was also where he seemed to want to play defense, unfortunately, he was asked to share some of the duties guarding Blount, who took him to task. And I loved Nate's hustle, but it resulted in some boneheaded turnovers. All in all, I think the Knicks looked a little discombobulated, but I think that they showed promise in their defensive game. Also, just like you said Skillz, they have to ice some free throws to want to win.

What a bummer you are huh? Who the hell wants to pay attention to reality right now? Not me, thank you. As for Doc, yes he mismanaged the fourth (why do you think we lost late in games so many times last year?), but he was sound in the rest of game. Even his harebrained scam with Ricky starting but not starting worked out.

I think the lack of bad fouling can be solely attributed to Mark Blount's smart inside play. Raef was the one making the dumb defensive plays, while Blount looked pretty sharp (if sometimes lackadaisical). West certainly contributed to the inside game too, including that incredible stuff of Curry. "Starbury" throwing the ball away on every good look they had certainly helped too. A good point guard would be ripping our half court defense apart. Steph just isn't that good a point guard.

Well, it was a great win! The team is starting to show good chemistry, and no one was being selfish. I was really impressed with West, as I am sure everyone else was as well. Boy...that kid can play! Did you see him knock that ball away from Curry? He plays with a lot of heart, and seems to fit in well as our starting point guard. Paul and Ricky of course, had great nights too. And can't forget Mark Blount he had a solid game as well. Just wish the second unit could have been more involved in the win.
