Phil Jackson was the one dude, despite all his flaws, who I publicly protected and defended. Said nothing when others would criticize him or find fault with him. "Damn you, Red Auerbach!!!"

I had to do that for him. I shared his last name.

Phil Jackson escaped criticism for his comments about hip-hop "prison garb and thuggery."

But over the years something's changed. Something's flipped. The openness, the acceptability of individualness, the personal liberalness -- all disappeared. It seemed that the minute Bill Clinton left office, Phil also left the building. Turned to the dark side, turned righteous, turned into Billy Graham, became … conservative.</div>

this is a pretty rough take on Jackson, i do agree he should have got some flack for his comments though. but i don't think he's a racist.
What do some of you think?

I'm not going to dismiss all the comments Scoop Jackson made. However, I think PJax is just ignorant to the "Hip-Hop" culture, most people are, even those who claim they are part of it. PJax doesn't embrace it and he probably never will, it's his choice. I'm sure what he has to say about the subject is generally, what most older people feel about the subject regardless of race. I think Scoop does what most sportswriters do these days (especially BSPN). They take a sound bite and run with it to create a controversial topic.

PJax's comments were insensitive, they caught me off guard and I found them ignorant.

This part by Scoop was great ...

What type of clothes and music does a man wear and listen to as he watches a player redirect his life out of loyalty to him, only to backstab that player one year later by returning to the crime scene for $30 million?</div>

Ok, I broke down and read it.

Scoop does make an interesting point about the hypocracy of Phil being a hippie yet also hating on the hip hop culture.

However, in typical Scoop form, he takes a tiny shred of something and twists it into a crap storm for no reason. I don't like him because he overdramatizes everything.

He does make a couple interesting points, and it was pretty stupid for Phil to say what he said. However, Scoop took it and ran like usual and that's why I don't really like him.

Exactly, the irony in his writing is laughable. Especially this part ...

I think every time there might be injustice, the first excuse is "he's playing the race card". Like racism doesn't exist anymore. A skinhead could make a racist comment about hiphop, and if I even speak out against it I'm technically "playing the race card". What the hell is "race card" anyway.

He calls hip-hop thuggish yet he is living in that world. I mean that in the way that he is with people from the culture. He is in the sport with a huge following in the hip-hop culture. He may not know it, but he is directly involved in the culture.
