OKay..so far CV31 is doing pretty good and proving many doubters wrong
however i still do not understand one thing---what was the point of drafting him?

Sure he is producing good numbers..and has a chance of producing good numbers throughout the season..but he plays the same positon as bosh..as our franchaise player..

Babcock traded Carter and acknowledge that the Raps are undergoing a rebuilding stage--getting younger--getting stronger

So what was the point of getting CV31? So that he can be a backup for three years?
Do you guys really see CV31 in the future of the raps?
He will probably end up leaving in a few years--to a team--where he can be a starter

CV31's future looks bright--but i still do not understand why raps drafted him..

Very simple. According to Babcock, Mitchell and Embry, they felt Villanueva was the best player available at the #7 pick, so they selected him regardless of position. Don't think it needs more explanation.

Yea, I agree with Purple Fever. I think after last year's mistake of taking Hoffa way too early for positional need. I think Babcock decided to try to get the best available talent, not to mention a good guy in Charlie Villeneuva. If Villeneuva can shift down to SF he will get plenty of minutes.

Charlie can't defend SF's, but he can obviously play offensively at the spot, he doesn't really have the tools to defend a SF, but if Peja and Rashard Lewis can play there with crappy defense, he can too. Actually right now he can't really defend any position well, but we'll see later.

With the position thing, what if Charlie becomes better than Bosh? Not saying it's bound to happen, but what if it does happen, then maybe we'll be considering trading Bosh to get a good SG or something in the future, who knows what will happen, for now, we'll just live with the fact that we have some young good players.

Villanueva is like Lamar Odom, capable of playing both PF and SF.. i don't see anything wrong with that except at the defensive end but that will improve with time.

Its not like the raptors have a ton of talent...
They should be drafting Best Player Available and hope they flourish and then when other teams inquire about trades, the raps will have the upper hand, dealing from a position of strength and be able to get more...I was just hoping they drafted Granger at 16 though!

Trade Bosh, why not, as long as we get a legit ALL STAR.....(although i love cb4)
no one is untouchable in pro sports...If Gretzky can get traded, anybody can be traded...

Wasnt it just last year when the raps drafted araujo out of necessity, instead of best player available? ahem Iguodola??? since we had VC and Jalen?

I am happy with Graham and CV31..did you really want to see granger in a raps uniform? A player who tends to get injured easily?

He has played a total of 1 regular season game, and you are already speculating what he is gonna do in 3 years. My god boys, even this is a stretch.

you could never draft enough good players even if they do play the same position as your best player

So far Joey Graham has had more injury problems than Granger in the NBA. I'm still happy with the rookies we got, just had to make the point.

Blasphemy does not even relate to this situation. Anyways, if Charlie becomes the better player, and we don't want to have 2 highly paid players with similar needs, then yes, Bosh can and should get traded for the right pieces. That's talking future wise though, and also with an if situation, but it's also possible.
