Of course, Jordan has had more cuz he had more years in the NBA. But Kobe just can't miss when the game is on the line. Even in the Season opener the other at Denver, he nailed a shot with 0.6 seconds to go in OT, and they won.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Sir Desmond:</div><div class="quote_post">I think the official number of Jordan gamewinners is around 25.

That includes an NBA title winner, an NCAA title winner and that incredible hanging jumper to put the Cavs out of the playoffs.

No one comes close to him at this point.</div>

25 seems low considering it includes Jordan's entire career. He played 15 years in the league plus the playoffs, 3 years at UNC, and 4 years in high school. I would think he made more than a tad over one game winner per year on average.

Maybe it's 25 game winners in championship games?

Nice find. It really seems low, considering all the basketball Jordan's played. If it's only 25, I think Kobe is really close to the total. If anyone could track down his game winner I'd appreciate it.

Not only has Jordan hit more game winners but hes also hit bigger shots. Jordan played far more seasons in his career than Bryant at this point in his career. Jordan has more game winners. Not to mention Jordan has hit playoff series winning shots as well as championship winning shots. I still get irked when the teens come out and start talking about Kobe as if hes anywhere near Jordan.

Gamewinners only refer to the deciding basket though, nothing else - which is why the UNC Georgetown shot counts even though there were still 40 seconds left on the clock, but no one scored for those 40 seconds so Jordan's jumper decided the game.

It doesn't include all the clutch shots he's hit in the last few minutes, it doesn't include shots to force overtime etc - so if the Bulls were down 20 with two minutes to go, and Jordan scored 18 straight and then say BJ Armstrong hit a three to win, then only Armstrong would get credited with a gamewinner.

So to use that with Kobe, his three to force OT in game two of the 03/04 finals wouldn't go down as a gamewinner officially, even though the Lakers went onto win.

When you look at it like that, 25 is a lot of times to directly decide the outcome of a game with the final score.

Im with Schaddy. Theres no need to compare Kobe to MJ every chance you get, Yea Kobe's the best player in the league whatever you do isnt going to change that, he might not have the fame but he's got the skills. Kobe is clutch he does it all, a great player indeed but nowhere near the level of MJ.

First of all if Jordan's number seems low it has to do with a decision he made later in his career, to not have to be the only one who takes the winning shot. If some of you'll remember he tended to defer to paxson or ker or even pippen on ocasions to take the big shot. This is something Kobe should learn from, instead of having to be "da man" all the time and ocassionally forcing bad shots instead of passing to the open man.

It's like last seasons laker-miami christmas matchup. Kobe didn't score one point at all in the overtime period, yet he still felt he needed to take the last shot, which he missed. for every game winner Kobe makes theres gonna quite be a few that don't make it. and don't tell me there's no open man to pass to, Kobe is routinely triple teamed when he takes a big shot, so theres always an open man.

    p.s. i believe Kobe's number is 19.

I really dont think Kobe should trust his teamates to take the game winning shot. Personaly I think he has the best chance of making it so why not shoot it? Unless he has 3 guys on him then yea he will pass but other then that Kobe #1 Option always.

I'm not sure where Johnny Brasco came up with 19, but if it's true, 19 is definitely close to 25.

I agree with GiantMidget, Jordan's game winners were more significant. He hit so many game winners in the playoffs, including the Finals.
