Peter Vecsey wrote in the post today that Mullin offered Murphy and a number 1 for Magloire.

That would have been perfect for us.

Well, there is a length of contract issue. Mason's contract ends in two years, while Murphy's contract ends in 6 years. If Murphy's contract was 3 years or less, I think we would have a good chance to get Magloire. But yeah. It would be very nice if we could get him...

Is there an online article there Mister Keith Jennings?

Hmm hard to believe anything Peter Vescey says but Magloire would be that presence we need on offense and defense. He's not an offensive juggernaut, but his impact was similar to what we saw Zaur Pachulia doing to us the other night. He basically drops his shoulder and just charges in. No real finesse and power moves inside the paint, he just barges in and throws his body. He's got a nice short jumper though. He could play either power forward or center, I believe.

I'm sure Magloire wouldn't mind playing with Baron again either.

I agree with you about Vescey just making stuff up, but this seems legit, the Hornets probably didn't want Mullin to rob them again (and the 60 mil left on Troy's deal)

November 4, 2005 -- EACH season around this time extremist fans and militant members of the media corroborate it's never too early to overreact. One shrill loss by the Nets and already one local columnist theorizes Vince Carter's contract will be easier to move than Richard Jefferson's.
Dragged down in Boston on opening night by a strong overtime undertow and one Garden regular straight away second guessed Larry Brown's continued use of Stephon Marbury, who aborted seven of 12 free throws.

In all fairness to Hooked on Stephonics, TV replays show, on three of four consecutive misses from the welfare line in the fourth quarter, he was clearly fouled in the act of shooting.

Why wait 82 games to assess the association when you can load the Lugar and jump the gun in less than 82 hours.

In fact, long before the Kings had officially disgraced themselves in their first outing, losing by 26 to the Hornets in Oklahoma City, educated speculation had Rick Adelman on target to become the earliest coach to be disowned.

A subsequent setback the very next night in Houston, lowlighted by Mike Bibby replicating the previous evening's 2-11 shooting display, and I was starting to understand why the Clippers choose Michael Olowokandi No. 1 overall in the '98 draft instead of Bibby.

The Bucks, 7-34 on the road a year ago, began with nervy victories down and up the New Jersey Turnpike, averaging 113.5 points against the 76ers and Nets. A number of definitive conclusions were immediately drawn:

For starters, the Sixers will never recover from their clock mismanagement against Milwaukee. They committed several mortal sins in the final 1:02 of regulation but their most grievous was not fouling T.J. Ford in the last frantic seconds as he zipped in and out traffic looking to find a teammate free beyond the 3-point line; Michael Redd promptly extended proceedings by five fatal minutes.

That depressing loss will be a microcosm for this season. They were fragile at best before that. Now they're really questioning themselves. Later that day the Pistons punished the visiting 76ers by 20 points.

Meanwhile, the Bucks have ascended into the Eastern Conference's tippy top tier alongside the Pistons, Pacers and Heat. Two straight successes and Deadly Redd, perplexingly uninvited to be Larry Bronze's lone zone buster in Greece, is expected to be named to the '08 Olympic team any moment now . . . T.J. Ford ? soon to be known as T.J. Bentley, projects John Lucas ? is the leading candidate to win the Most Improved Award . . . and Andrew Bogut is a living lock to earn elite rookie honors.

Having the number one pick of last June on board couldn't have worked out better for Jamaal Magloire. With Bogut around to rebound (26 in two games) and run the floor and find the open man with precision passes and stick mid-range jumpers, the All-Star center isn't under any pressure to try to exceed his limitations should he ever recognize them.

Nene, sidelined two minutes into his season with an ACL injury, may or may not have filled that void. That Nene/Marcus Camby-Antonio McDyess June 26, '02 trade doesn't look half as bad as it once did. The good news is, it'll be easier for Isiah Thomas to get the rising free agent when he decides to overpay him this summer.

Get carried away? Not this jaded journalist.

As soon as Troy Murphy picked up his fourth foul in the third quarter and was forced to take a seat, the Warriors went on something like a 27-2 run to squash Atlanta, who led at the half by ten, 122-97. No wonder Chris Mullin offered Murphy and a No. 1 pick to the Hornets for Magloire. Afterward, David Stern quarantined the Hawks, citing bird flu.

I told you the Pistons told me a mistake was made by making Smush Parker the last cut of last season. Now everyone knows. If you guessed the Lakers' second-leading scorer against the Nuggets was Smush (20 points, 8-12 FG and suffocating defense on Andre Miller), you get an autographed copy of Phil Jackson's new book ripping Lamar (2-for-13) Odom.

As for the Nets, nothing says "early-season statement" about the team's lack of athleticism quite like racing out to a 16-point lead against a Bucks team that played overtime the night before then was able to get over Greyhound lag and beat your brains in.

After the game, Milwaukee dedicated the victory to Gordie Chiesa.

By the way, sources reveal Chiesa did not quit as Lawrence Frank's assistant due to family problems. That might have been an underlying issue, but not the real truth. The main reason he walked away from 400G per for two years was his boss' refusal to designate any courtside authority whatsoever to his aides.

Thanks Mr. Jennings! Wow that would be an improvement if we got Magloire. We need that toughness in the middle so badly that I think it's why Taft has looked so impressive to some lately. Heck I still wish we could find a Dale Davis type player with or without "the walk", if you know what I mean. That guy was initimidating on the floor.

You don't like Mags? I guess it's debatable whether he's really a true center.

I've always thought of Magloire to be somewhat overrated. He put up a few good seasons, but let's face it, that all-star nod was strickly because he was the only center in the East to have a pulse.

As for the rumor, you can always tell which rumors Vecay totally makes up and which ones have legs. Here's how: Vecey has never even heard of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, much less what a Base Year Compensation player is. Murph has BYC status, which means the Warriors can only take back a) what Murphy made last year or [IMG] 50% of what he makes this year. Since the Warriors are over the cap, a trade doesn't work.

Here, let's play a game: which trade is legitimate and which is one Vecey would come up with:

    a) Warriors trade Pietrus, Fisher, and a future #1 to the Lakers for Slava Medvedenko and Devan George (both players are in the last years of their deals)

    or

[IMG] Warriors trade Murphy and Dunleavy to the Chicago Bulls for Ben Gordon, Tyson Chandler, and White Sox World Series MVP (also owned by Jerry Reinsdorf), Jermaine Dye.

    (answer to come tomorrow)

A, but I could be wrong. [IMG]

Yeah, I know with Magloire, I think mentioned that he was an all-star in the East and not simply referred to as just an "all-star". Heck Dampier in his contract year could have been an all-star in the east.

If we had Magloire or a healthy, motivated Dampier, they at least set the tone defensively and on the glass and bring toughness to our middle while scoring a few second chance points. I also feel that Dunleavy would operate better if there was an inside finisher or somebody who could get position inside right away. Often times he'd try to dribble with nowhere to go to or nobody legitimate to pass to so that leaves him to go back out again or to take the shot in traffic. I watched some highlights of Dunleavy in 03-04 where he was driving a lot more and he was setting up Dampier. He got quite a few dimes because of that option to go inside. If you go to Foyle on the other hand he's quite a below the rim kind of player that can only score with one hand and has a hard time even dunking. I think Foyle, from time-to-time, also puts the ball on the floor when it is not necessary (some players do this for balance or to put themselves in position to go from the side they feel most comfortable in). Does that screw up any player's assist records when Foyle does that?

    Definition of an assist. [IMG]

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting http://www.answerbag.com/glossary.php/222:</div><div class="quote_post">The last pass to a teammate that leads directly to a field goal; the scorer must move immediately toward the basket for the passer to be credited with an assist; only 1 assist can be credited per field goal.</div>

So there's no exception if a guy puts the ball once on the floor when he didn't need to. That sucks. Even more reason to love/hate Foyle when it comes to offense this year. The + is he's making it, the - is people don't get credited with the setup play and it looks ugly when he scores.

Actually, I think that definition is wrong. I've seen John Stockton record his record-breaking assist to Malone and Malone actually took a few dribbles away from the basket and took a jump shot. It was barely an assist, but an assist nonetheless.

So, I think if Foyle takes a few dribbles to get into better position to score, it is an assist. I don't know where the line is of what is an assist and what isn't to tell you the truth. Is it determined by how many dribbles, steps, or seconds the scoring player takes?

I think an assist should be any time you pass the ball to the person who scores even if that person dribbles the ball to death and scores on his own..

That is my opinion though. If they did that though they would have to record the pass that leads to the assist. That is where Dunleavy is at his best I think. Maybe he does not rack up the assists, but he does the pass that leads to the assist. Just like my coach in high school used to say "the pass that leads to the assist is just as important as the assist itself".

This is true. There are many unrecorded stats that hide some players' skills.

Nah, An assist in Basketball is putting the player in a position to score. A good outlet pass or swing pass sets up the play just as much as the final pass sometimes, but it that were the case then a good screen should get an assist too.

I'm good at pulling on people's shirts on the court so they don't get the fast break...that should count as a defensive assist.

In reality, it's me being too lazy to run down the court.

If somebody is doing that to me that should count as an ass-whooping. [IMG]

At least it's just the shirt and not blatant tripping.

Maybe Rudeezy or Wtwalker know. They played at a higher level than I ever did.

I dont think the rules for an assist are all that strict. You can pass a guy the ball and if it only takes him a drop step or a dribble or two its generally an assist. If you give them the ball and they score 3 seconds later, that isnt an assist (as far as I know) but you can pass the ball to someone at the 3 pt line and they can drive it in for a layup and that is an assist (again as far as I know).
