The team worked their a$$es off to get to the line against the Jazz. It was nice to see the effort in the half court, to make things happen. In our first 2 games it's been a constent effort to not just hoist long bomb after long bomb. If we shoot 30-38 from the line last night we win. Our half court play is very ugly, especially without Baron, so making free throws is so important. Most half court is ugly in general, opportunities to score are made very difficult, unless you have a Shaq type of player. When you get those opportunities to score from the line ,you have to convert them. Good teams take what they're given and convert. You must make them pay. Come on guys! Take a deep breath, slow the game down and get yourself a little rest at the line, and make your throws.
Nice call homey. Diogu is like bringing in a free agent without trading anyone away to get him. I can't wait for him to get his feet wet. Three reasons why Diogu will help immensely: 1) Half court play; Diogu can score in the post. He can also shoot from the outside. If he can learn to pass out of the post, he, Baron, and J-rich, will be unstoppable. 2) Free throws; This team desparately needs a calming force in the free throw shooting area. If Diogu shoots anywhere near 80%, it'll be huge. 3) Rebounding; His rebounding prowess will be felt at both ends of the floor. A future front line of Taft, Diogu, and Biedrins, will be tough.
Points in the paint, FT's, rebounding, good mid range jumper, and some blocks. What more can you ask for.
Free throw are only worth one point right so we can hit 3 point and we will be fine. instead of work on free throw we need to work on 3 point.
No!!!! We need to work on free throws. The last thing this team needs is to regress into shooting to many threes like last year before Baron. There's nothing wrong with taking threes in the flow of the offense, but let's concentrate on making the ones from the line with no hands in the face.
It's making me sick! We're playing great defense, and making alot of things happen at both ends, then we give it away at the line. I like the ugly win on the road, but we should be 3-0 with 2 blowouts.
I wonder what the hell happend to Murphy's FT percentage. I remember during his first two years he shot around 80%, since then it's been going down hill. We can see that he's really working hard to bang inside, I hope he starts droppin in those FT's. It'll sure help the team as well make his scoring line look way more impressive.
I think ever since Jamison and Arenas left (players that can get to the line easily and shoot free throws) it hasn't been the same. When Fisher or Brian Cardinal (bench players) were leading the way in ft% for our team, we're just pretty sad. For any guy not taking a great deal of shots I guess they need to hit those. Dunleavy *cough*. 75% shooter which isn't bad, but a finesse guy like him initially compared to guys like Bird, Peja, or Nowitzki needs to at least hit 80% or higher. Talk about hyped up and overrated in not meeting those areas that our team desperately needs (defense, advantage of size in the post, dribble penetration, free throws, etc.) I know not showing the number of free throw attempts doesn't tell the whole story, but Foyle is currently leading the team with 80% (over 3 games). Good for Foyle.
