NEW YORK, Nov. 7 – The Milwaukee Bucks’ T.J. Ford and the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Tuesday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 6.

After missing a year and a half with a career-threatening spinal injury, Ford averaged 16.7 points, 10.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds in 40 minutes per game to guide the Bucks to their first 3-0 start since the 2001-02 season. Ford recorded career highs in assists with 14 against Philadelphia on Nov. 1 and in points with 21 versus New Jersey on Nov. 2.

Bryant led the Lakers to a 2-1 start, averaging a league-high 36.3 points, to go along with 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 42.3 minutes per game this week. In the Lakers’ road opener on Nov. 2, Bryant hit a game-winning 23-foot jumper with 0.6 second remaining in overtime to defeat the Nuggets 99-97.

    Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers

Nov. 2 at Denver: Recorded 33 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks in a 99-97 overtime win over the Nuggets.

Nov. 3 vs. Phoenix: Had 39 points, including 13-of-14 from the free throw line, seven rebounds and five assists in a 122-112 loss to the Suns.

He deserves it, he's scoring 33ppg with a decent FG%. The most important thing however, is that we are 2-1 and have beaten a great Denver team twice. Hopefully the run will continue against ATL, Minnesota and then against Allen Iverson and his 76'ers.

No no no, he's scoring 36.3 a game! [IMG]

Those two wins against the Nuggets were great. I was hoping for a split at best. I didn't expect the Lakers to beat Phoenix, but at least they had a shot to win that game. I'll be happy with a 2-2 performance on this upcoming road trip.

Kobe is playing great ball, hopefully he can maintain this play throughout the season. 36.3 ppg on I believe 49% shooting, good job Kobe!

In the NBA it is the general concensus that if you win 50% of your away games your in good shape. Though I think the Lakers have the ability to go 4-0 or 3-1 on this trip.

Just trying to keep the expectations low. Atlanta should be a lock, but Minny, Philly, and Memphis is a toss-up on the road. Lakers don't match up well with Philly or Memphis. Troy Hudson always has career nights against the Lakers, and KG is a tough matchup on any night.

Added he's 25 outta 26 from the line. And only took 1 3 per game. He didn't make any but taking limited 3's is a big reason why his FG pct is high for him. He's almost shooting 50%.

Kobe had a very well deserved Player of the Week honor. He lit up Denver on two occasions and then lit up Phoenix despite a loss. Very well deserved. On another note, he's continuing his trend of dominance tonight against Atlanta as well, as he's already got 35 points with about 9 minutes to go in the 4th.

I can hear them too, as long as the Lakers keep the wins rolling in. I think if they finish in the top 6 this year, Kobe has a great shot at MVP. However, the Lakers need to keep playing and keep playing well this year, they can't falter and need to be consistent all season.

If the lakers finish top 6 this year Kobe bryant will be awarded MVP no matter what.

And he's now averaging 36.5 ppg on 51.3% shooting...

If Kobe keeps up this pace, there is no reason why he shouldn't be MVP. I don't expect 36 ppg, but I think he can score about 33 a game in this offense. If the Lakers finish top 6, and he is about 33 ppg, shooting 46% or better, he should be top 2 in MVP voting.
