I'm sure the people who saw the Hornets game have seen the "Yao & Mason incident". After what happened, Yao came up to Mason and shook his hand before jump ball. Now many people are calling him soft again and a weakling for not reacting back or at least ignore him instead being so forgiving and nice. (some thought it cost Rockets their momentum) I for one am neutral about it. What do you guys think Yao should have done? Do you think he did the right thing by reconciling with Mason?
What's wrong with a good show of sportsmanship? Honestly, what the hell is wrong with NBA fans these days? And to answer your question, Yao blocked Mason's shot and took him to the floor (hand on the ball at all times). When they hit the floor Yao tried to rip the ball (again all ball) and had Mason underneath his legs, when the play was whistled dead, Mason flipped Yao, which caused Juwan Howard to come over and shove Mason out of the way in an attempt to protect Yao. Mason and Yao had some words, there was a minor scuffle between the two teams, and a double technical was handed out.
How did Mason react after Yao patted him on the back? Just sounds like something that happened in the heat of the moment, and not much more. Dez isn't a dirty player, he's just competitive, same with Yao.
here is the video http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2M7NZ1G...GZ2MIQOC97REG7B I think it has something to do with the culture difference. The fans in the US may never understand and that is OK,as long as Yao give us 20+--10+--2+,it doesn't matter if he is labeled soft or not.Yao is a class act player and a class act person for that matter. He just showed some good sportsmanship.Yao is no Artest.Yao actually has some self-control.
Mason and Yao are both good guys, I'm sure it was just the heat of the moment, you go to the floor, think someone might've given an extra shove, etc. It's good that they were civil towards each other, and I don't think that Yao keeping his wits and properly handling a situation labels him as soft.
Thaks for the video YaoFan. Yao got a clean block and I think Mason was just frustrated and wanted the ball. I dont know why he wanted Yao's blood but its just part of the game, no big deal.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting yaofan:</div><div class="quote_post">here is the video http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2M7NZ1G...GZ2MIQOC97REG7B I think it has something to do with the culture difference. The fans in the US may never understand and that is OK,as long as Yao give us 20+--10+--2+,it doesn't matter if he is labeled soft or not.Yao is a class act player and a class act person for that matter. He just showed some good sportsmanship.Yao is no Artest.Yao actually has some self-control.</div> I agree, that may contribute to the cultrue difference, since YAO is a good- tempered player,he will never fight against anyone in the league. I think it is wise for yao not to fight back, that may cause serious consequence.
mason did not intentionaly hit yao... he let go of juans arm and when he did it was going at yao... it was an accident
Well Im suprised at Mason. He was just frustrated. I dont think Yao is soft because he shook hands with Mason, Mason didnt have a problem with and Yao doesn't want any hard feelings.
Yao did the right thing, good sportsmanship Yao. I dont think Mason got mad cuz he got blocked or wanted the ball or anything. If you watched closely Juwon Howard pushed a couple of Hornets out of the way pretty hard.
I didn't see it but, great for Yao. He did the correct thing on being a good sport and being nice to mason.
it was funny when mason was wrestling yao and flipped him over lol a 7 6 guy got flipped over, but it was all good they shook hands
After Mason flipped Yao over, he was looking down on the fallen Yao and seemed ready to go off. Who knows what would've happened if Howard didn't push Mason to divert his attention.
Hahaha. Okay so Yao is hated on by fans and then so is a player like Artest for the total opposite. WTF is wrong with peole nowadays?
As always, Yao showed up as a gentleman both on and outside the court, even when the incident occurred on the 3rd qtr, his courtesy remained when he came back to jump the ball as he compromisingly gave Mason a pat, the guy just committed a tech foul on him, in the friendly way. This was definitely wrong and he was expected to be repelled out of the court if he resorted to violence, maybe a brawl, like what happened in the palace of Auburn Hill. He might have gotten suspensed and fined then step into a new phase. Then he'd earn the respect from the league, not only for how nice this big guy behaves, but also the way he claims for his integrity, portraiting an image that never caves. By contrast, he chose the other way of dealing things, pouring oil on troubled waters. Apparently he's got effected by it in the following game, and missed the following 8 shots.
Regarding the "accident", I guess the file has been closed. This is NBA, things like this is not a big deal. I extremely agree with the point about the culture differencs, good point!
Mason is an embicile. What he did was totally unneccesary and dangerous and honestly i hate to be self rightous and all but during the katrina disaster many Houston Rocket players went head over heals to help them recover and the fact a New Orleans player could show such disregard for a Houston Rocket disgusts. The least you'd ask out of NO is that they show some respect for a Rocket.
There is point of talking about this. Yao and Mason shook hands and basically showed that there is no hard feelings. Nothing else happened and Im sure they both got over it, so that incident is basically dead.
