Wow...looks like Syracuse barely squeezed one out last night and PG Gerry McNamara was 0-10 from beyond the arc. [IMG] This team isn't going to anywhere if some guys don't start stepping up off the bench. Roberts played 36 minutes, McNamara played 39, Nichols played 37, and Watkins play 38. The only guy that came off the bench and even produced was Eric Devendorf who had 6 pts, 2 assists, and 2 boards in the minutes he played.

Alright this is all updated. Florida becomes the 2nd team to clinch a spot. It looked like Wake had a little trouble against MVSU before pulling away at the end. Texas Tech just rolled.

I was just watching Texas Tech vs. Georgia Southern and saw where Wake Forest and George Mason went to OT where Wake Forest squeezed out a 83-78 win. Wake Forest had some trouble with Miss Valley State who lost to UC Irvine tonight by 54, so could Wake Forest maybe be a bit overrated early in the season? I'm starting to think that this may be Florida's tourney to lose if Wake Forest and Syracuse keep up the sloppy play...

    My biased prediction....

    Florida over Wake
    Syracuse over TT

    TT over Wake
    Syracuse over Florida

I would be satisfied if thee Gators can go 1-1 in this mini tournament. It will be a great experience for our extremely young and inexperienced team to go up against 2 legit teams in 2 days.

I'll take Florida to beat Wake Forest-the Deacs' defense has been no better than last year's on the perimeter, and Florida's Lee Humphrey is 9/14 from three so far this season. Florida's frontcourt is just as solid as Wake's so with the backcourt edge going to the Gators, they're my pick.

I've got to take Texas Tech over Syracuse in the other game. McNamara is in one of his cold streaks to start the year, and I think that Texas Tech's offensive versatility will help them, as will their experience from last year's tourney. Syracuse has an advantage up front, though, so this should be a real good matchup.

I'm actually going to pick those same teams to win their second round games, too. Again, Tech's backcourt will be too much for Wake, and the Gators can cause some serious matchup problems for Cuse.

Well it would be the championship, so TT would play against UF in the final.

Florida defeated Wake Forest 77-72. Sophomore PG Taurean Green went off for a career high 23 pts and also added 5 assists. Corey Brewer had a solid game as well with 15 pts, 6 boards, and 3 assists. I thought the guard positions were supposed to be Florida's weak spots, but they proved tonight that they can really shoot the rock; Green hit four 3-poitners and Humphrey hit three. Horford and Noah didn't really impress me, but it could be because both were in foul trouble almost the whole game.

But as I've said before- Florida is being way overlooked and after tonight, they should get the respect that they deserve...

I am really looking forward to this year even more now. This just shows our balance. Green wasn't even our 3rd or 4th leading scorer the first 2 games and he comes out when everyone else is struggling to take over the game. We have 6 guys capable of being consistent 10+ pt scorers and you know 1 of them is bound to be on each night. I was very disappointed with the low post guys, but it doesn't matter when our backcourt heats up. We'll be a top 25 team if we can at least stay competitive tomorrow night. It's gonna be interesting to see how our young guys do after getting an emotional win and then having to go back out there 24 hours later and do it again.

Wow, Syracuse showed me something today. They beat on Texas Tech, who I thought was just a bit better than them, 81-46. That's darn impressive. McNamara his three 3s (12 pts) and 9 assists, and Demetris Nichols had 11 and 7 boards while frosh Eric Devendorf had 11. This was a very impressive win for Cuse. Should be an entertaining match between the Orange and Gators. Speaking of Gators, Taurean Green had 23 points, 4 boards and 5 assists in their win over Wake. If he can do that every once in awhile all year, Florida is even more dangerous...

That 'Cuse 2-3 zone absolutely dominated that game. They are long and quick, which is very good for a zone defense. It seemed as if every time Tech swung the ball around the perimeter they were double teamed. Tech could not get any good looks at the basket.

This Orange recruiting class of '03 (Roberts, Watkins, McCroskey, Nichols) is really showing its potential. They had to wait to get their turn, but they are making the most of it.

    Syracuse 87, Flordia 59 tonight

Gerry McNamara will prove all the HATERS wrong tonight. Watch as a lot of the younger guys, (Wright, Devendorf, and mabey Rautins) have a big game. I loved the defense Josh Wright brings to the Syracuse zone.

Rautins is a benchwarmer man. He won't have a big game because he will only play during blowouts.

Syracuse's defense was amazing last night. I agree; players like Watkins and Nichols were built for the zone. They completely dominated Texas Tech at the start of the game. The zone kept Tech to something like 2-20 shooting at the start, and it was just all downhill from there.

You've got to also put a lot of blame on Texas Tech though. For a team just outside of the top twenty five, they played one of the worst games of basketball I've seen in the last few years. Even when they could get open shots against Cuse's defense, they weren't able to hit anything.

McNamara looked great overall in this game, but his shooting was still pretty bad overall. The guy even missed a layup. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but he was missing almost everything he threw up there. His shooting percentage on the year must be horrible.

    Texas Tech vs Wake Forest

anybody else think that Knight rallies the troops to beat Wake? I think Gray is too iffy at the points and Texas Tech will exploit it and beat Wake Forest.

    I highly doubt it.

Even if he is inexperienced at the one, he is still a tremendous college player.

Plus, they have Erik Williams down low who gets overlooked because of Shelden Williams.

Tech just doesn't have the talent.
