<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">November 12, 2005 -- SAN FRANCISCO ? Larry Brown came to Stephon Marbury's defense after yesterday's Post exclusive saying the Knick point guard is on the trading block. While not denying that trade talks have gone on, Brown said deals were not the answer to their 0-5 start after last night's 86-84 loss to Golden State. Brown even cracked, "If anything needs to be done, maybe they need to find a new coach." Brown said he's "proud" of how hard Marbury has worked. Marbury, meanwhile, took Post columnist Peter Vecsey's report in stride. The report stated Isiah Thomas isn't averse to dealing Marbury, and that he sent feelers out two weeks ago to selects clubs in need of a point guard. "Anything's possible," Marbury said. "It's a business. I understand. What do I want to happen? I want us to get a win [last night]. If we were winning, nobody would be talking about trades. We're losing right now, so someone has to be the person they've got to talk about. And Peter Vecsey, he knows the right person whom to point to." Marbury's last line meant he's the most recognizable Knick, and the natural target of trade talk. Problem is, the Marbury market is small because of his contract being so large ? four years and $76.6 million left on it. The Knicks would have to take at least one bad contract in return to make a Marbury deal work under the salary cap. Marbury makes $16.4M this season and will top out at $21.9M in 2008-09, when he's 31. It's not surprising the Knicks would want to look at his trade value when he's still in his prime. </div> Source Some interesting choice of words by Larry Brown. Also the article mentioned Isiah didn't travel with the team. (I'm not sure if he normally does.) James Dolan also has no desire to take anymore bad contracts unless it significantly improves the team. Stay tuned.... I still think Crawford is the player who's getting traded.
I bash Crawford alot of his shot selection and handling skills but this kid can flat out score. We need his offense in the lineup in order to be successful. He can drop around 15 a night which is critical for us. I think LB standing up for Marbury is great. It improves the pg and Coach relationship they have. I agree with Marbury. Knicks are losing so they need a trade. Ppl need to stop thinking trades and start thinking chemistry and progression. Trading people will just make the chemistry even worse then it already is.
I'd be happy with the Andre Miller for Jamal Crawford deal, but Im not sold on playing Marbury out of position like most of the other Knicks players, they need a bonafide PF right now Davis isnt cutting it and Taylor and Rose are looking like scrubs while Brown is reluctant to play rookies. I'd be happy if the Knicks got something more than a PG or someone to handle the rock out of whatever deal Isiah has in mind.
