I support Van Gundy in benching McGrady if it was because of that. Setting a bad example as a captain and really not being competitve enough. If we really played good defense and passed the ball around for open shots, hey anythings possible.

They were simply the better team, and id we played first one to 500 they would have won. Anything may be possible in the NBA, and that goes especially for the Rockets, but when you played a game like that....pffffffffft. I support McGrady. We were down by so much, I was pissed, and him joking about that reminded me that it's just a game. I don't even care that we lost today.
McGrady and Pierce were joking around because they both had airballed shots in back to back possesions. Pierce airballed a shot bad, and then on the next play, McGrady did it too. I've watched just about every Celtics game for the past 5 years, and they've always been a team that can't hold leads. I don't think the game was out of reach when McGrady was pulled, and if Van Gundy pulled him because he smiled at Pierce, then I think he made a really bad coaching decision.

He got back in the game a few minutes later, but the Celtics took advantage of his absence and extended the lead to 17. At that point, it was pretty much hopeless. Of course, all this is just speculation. Maybe Van Gundy sat him down for some other reason. I can't think of one, though.
JVG saw that the chances of winning the game were slim and he didn't want to risk further injury to Tracy. That sounds like a good reason to me.

Heh. </div> Hey, in basketball, when a player has a game like this, you can do nothing about it, it's heppens sometimes, remember Donyell Marshall vs. PHI ? Toronto played pretty bad, but they had Marshall to knock down 12 OPEN threes... and Toronto won by 20. We will back to the winning streak next game, Don't worry
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Proz4k:</div><div class="quote_post"> We will back to the winning streak next game, Don't worry </div> A winning streak of what? One? These are our next five opponents: @ Minnesota, 1 days rest @ San Antonio, 1 days rest Detroit, 0 days rest @ Indiana, 1 days rest @ Dallas, 1 days rest After that, the rest of the month's games are winnable, but still won't be a cakewalk: Phoenix, 0 days rest @ Memphis, 1 days rest Chicago, 0 days rest Atlanta, 2 days rest I think we wasted an opportunity at the beginning of the season to get off to a good start. We'll be fortunate to climb over .500 by the end of November.

Most shots he takes are BAD shots, but he's won too many games by hitting those same BAD shots he takes. So if Van Gundy took him out of the game because his shot selection, then that's hypocritical in itself. How could you EVER question Tracy Mcgrady's competitveness? The guy competes hard every night, if he wants to smile about a silly shot, FINE. But don't question his competitvness, thats very foolish

I wasn't referring to McGrady being benched because of his shooting selection. Hell, half of those in your face shot he makes. The part about shot selection I was talking about coming back in the game. Chill out. I do question McGrady's competitiveness in this case because well, if someone was really that competitive, you wouldn't be laughing at your air ball. Instead, you would be kicking yourself because of it. In fact, I don't think he plays hard every night. What about the times when he just came back from an injury or is injured? Like say that time againt the Celtics where Lafrentz smoked us?
The lack of offense by D.A. Alston Wesley is killing us. Bad shooting and forcing shots will not get us anywhere. They have got to step up.
