He needs to penetrate more and drive . At least help out with the scoring in some way. I think we made a big mistake getting him. Watching him handling the ball is killing me . Heck Luther Head does a better job then Skip. He should be starting . Tell me what you guys think.

It was the same thing in Toronto, he dribbled 90% in the Raptors offense, they didn't like this, they wanted a first-pass point guard, and Houston wanted a first-pass point guard too, like T-Mac said after the trade "He's a first-pass point guard, and he should be a great fit for the team", he didn't know, i don't know why Houston thought that Alston is a first-pass point guard.
he didn't fit in a TEAM like Toronto, so obviously he can't be a good fit for a TWO PLAYERS team like Houston, it was pretty bold, for me, im after Skip Alston since his days as a Buck.
JVG said that he wanted a first-pass point guard so he brought Rafer, it's too weird to be true!.

I REALLY REALLY pray that I have this quote at the end of the season. 6 games in, and you expect the new guys to come in and dominate. I guess a learning curve doesn't exist in your world.

    well as a raps fan
i am very happy to have Mike James playing for us
i liked what Skip did for us last season (esp his moves)--but he wasnt a leader
Mike James is becoming a leader for the raps, and is actually passing the ball
he's a great fit for us
and what i also like abt him is the fact that he's always smiling

I was somewhat weary of the Alston trade when it happened, and it still looks like it hasn't panned out. But right now, no guard is playing particularly well. Luther Head has exceeded expectations, of course, but he's still learning his way. You'd think that with so many veteran guards on the team, the adjustment period would be small. But it hasn't been.

I don't think we should underestimate experience playing with winning ball clubs when evaluating personnel and how they'll fit with the team. Both Alston and Anderson have played for some pretty terrible ball clubs through a good chunk of their career. I don't know if they can bring the right intesity and consistent effort that's needed from them.

They need a vocal leader on the club.. both Yao and Tmac are pretty passive and Rafer isn't the guy for that either. Even though he's well past his prime, Gary Payton could have brought leadership to this club. Right now, I think that's what they need most.

I agree--GP would have been a much better fit with the Rockets
now you guys are stuck with Skip for another 4 years

You know what GPs problem in LA was? He didn't get the ball enough. How do you think it would've worked out in Houston with Yao and Tracy?

i LIKED MIKE JAMES, but not as our starter. He could have played off the bench, but he isn't what the Rockets needed.

I am still happy w/ Rafer, I saw what he was capable of last season, and once you doubters see that this season, you will act as if you never doubted in him...It's funny the way things work around here though.

I hope we don't trade him any time soon. If Bob Sura returns he, Rafer, Anderson, and Luther will do wonders at the guard position.

Watch Rafer show you guys what he is made up today. I think he will do well against the Minnesota team.

judge rafer 25+ games into the season. If he shows consistency and helps the team chemistry then it would prove to be a good trade for the rox.

i didnt watch todays game. But statistically 4-9 13 pts is a major improvement.

SKIP came in expected to run a team that has yet to find their chemistry and get deep in the playoffs. I will give him more than 7 games too compare his worth with anybody else.
I still think he is a good fit if he sticks to what he does best, and thats getting to the hole(which he finally did in Minn). I think the first 25 games is important for the rockets to develop as a team and get familiar with each others games.
Judgement shouldn't be dealt just yet.

Skip scored 10pts in the 4th quarter including a HUGE steal to open the second half last night. I wonder where you were when the game was on?

I admit at first I wasn't crazy about giving up Mike James, but I like what I've seen out of Alston so far......the only complaint I have with him is that I wish he wouldn't be so hesistant to shoot the ball when he's open, but he's been doing a great job of getting everyone involved and controlling the offense.

I've been a fan of rafer's play since his first preseason game..I think he does a marvelous job of running the offense, getting guys open, and not committing many mistakes...he's averaging 4.5 assists against only 1.3 turnovers in 32 minutes per game...he could easily be averaging 6-8 assists per if the team could hit their open shots...but I do think he needs to stop relying on the 3-pointer and slash more, which he did last night against Minny and scored 12 points...I love how he runs the team and controls tempo, and I do think he has worked hard to grasp the schemes of the Rockets...

give him time... there is no doubt in my mind that alston will perform the the rockets... lets face it, when tmac went down... he had to jack up some shots to make up for the offense, once he gets used to the system and learn how the players want theirs, he should be fine.

I was thinking the same thing. He needs to be MORE aggressive like he was the second half of last night. He does a good job of spacing the floor, but he needs to look for his shot a little more.
