<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> ORLANDO - Sean May tried to act as if he had no clue what became of the Orlando Magic's 2005 first-round draft pick. But his sly smile gave away the ploy and lent some insight into his bitterness over the Magic not choosing him with the draft's 11th selection. Orlando selected 6-foot-11, 240-pound power forward Fran Vazquez, passing on several more established American players including North Carolina's May, the most outstanding player of the NCAA Final Four last spring. Vazquez ultimately refused to join the Magic, instead signing a four-year contract with a professional team in Spain. May, chosen 13th by the Charlotte Bobcats, entered Tuesday's game in Orlando averaging 9.1 points a game, having scored a career-best 18 on Saturday in Miami. May worked out in Orlando prior to the draft against fellow power forwards Charlie Villanueva and Wayne Simien, calling it "one of my better workouts." He said he figured he would be drafted anywhere from ninth to 15th, but he admitted he was stunned when the Magic passed on him for Vazquez. "They went a different direction, and I'm not even sure if the guy they drafted came over or not," May said through a chuckle. "But I'm happy where I'm at, and that's how the cards were dealt. "That's part of the difficulty with the draft, because the foreign players are not forced to come over here. Then you get a situation where Orlando wasted a good draft pick. I'm not sure what happens with (Vazquez's) future rights or when he's going to come over, but I know Orlando would probably want a player who could play right now. They had a lottery pick, and for what?" Chaotic times. It's been a hectic two-plus weeks for Charlotte forward Jumaine Jones, a native of Cocoa.</div> Source
Thankyou Captain Obvious May. The Magic's player didn't want to come to the NBA, so of course it was a mistake, regardless of whether they overlooked a superstar or a dud.
fran vazquez refuse to join the magic???? what kind bs player is he, WOW this is the first one ever in basketball history that turned down playing in the nba, and there were a lot of players that should have gone higher in the draft and a lot of players that should have gone lower to even second round(andrew bynum, antoine wright)
^^Pretty old news really. But yeah May is basically pointing out something everybody already knew, that the Magic got screwed in their draft, and would've been better off drafting just about anyone at this point. Amazing insight!!! and hindsight obviously.
As a Magic fan I was so so mad at the team for drafting Vasquez, I really wanted them to draft my city hero, Danny Granger, but May would of been nice to have in a Magic uni.
So who the hell does Vasquez think he is that he can waste a much more profesional and talented organisation's time puting himself up to be drafted then f!@king off.He probobly should'nt be allowed to play in the NBA after doing something like that.He Most likely knew that he would prefer to play for some other crap so why not piss off and play over there and not muck around with our Draft.Alot of people would give alot to be drafted in such a position in the Draft. This guy has absolutely no respect.

It might not show up in his stats so far but he has been impressive in the few minutes he has gotten this season. I'm sure you could find a few other Laker fans who felt the same way. The Fran Vazquez pick was a waste, but in the Magic's point of view they really can't say anything more than that they got screwed. Talent wise we still don't know if it was a good pick, and no one even had a clue something like that would happen. They wanted a defensive big man who they felt was the most talented, and that's what they drafted. Yes it was a waste of a pick and maybe he wasn't the best player avalible (we may never know on that one) but you really can't blame them for him not joining the team. If he showed ANY sign at all about not wanting to play in the league not one lottery team would even worked him out.

Fran was as shocked as anyone the team selected him. He never worked out for the Magic and never even met the GM. At 22 he was automatically included in the draft, so he didn't waste anyone's time. The Magic just gambled on a player they knew nothing about and got burned as a result.
Fran is actually pretty good, if the Magic can get him to come over in 2 years or so, him and Dwight could make up one nice frontcourt. He's not the regular Euro big, he's a banger, he's athletic, he has some moves and skills, and he's pretty good.

Everyone in the NBA knew the Magic made a mistake when they heard that Fran wasn't going to play in the NBA...
^ I agree but the magics would have been really tough--and playoff bound if they had selected may a line-up of: May Howard Hill Francis Nelson would have been deadly
Is Vasquez a free agent when he(if he chooses to return) to the NBA? or does the Magic have the rights to him? Anywyas, I think saying he has no respect is taking this a bit out of proportion., If he had no intention, and the GM drafted him out of the blue, it's the GMs fault.

The way it is currently looking it doesn't look like the greatest decision, but why is Sean May coming out and saying this. I haven't liked Sean May since I saw his interview right after he got drafted making sarcastic remarks about the people getting drafted below him calling it disrespectful that he fell so low. He's a 6-9 center not exactly a hot commodity, I think he should prove himself more before ragging on another team and their decisions.
I wonder if he is going to say anything about the Warriors passing over him for Diogu... I am looking forward to our game on Friday...
