Yes or no? Level of play is irrelevant.

When I attended USF as an undergrad, I would play literally everyday. Now I sit in front of a computer all day eating junk. I'm lucky if I get to play once a week. I just had ankle surgery so that's another 6 months of sitting on my arse getting fat. But, I plan to make a vigorous come back and am wondering if it would be possible to get all of us together one weekend for some hoops.

I just play for recreation. I use to play at least 4 times a week, now its more like twice a month. Thanks for reminding me, I seriously need to get back into shape. Pass the doritos.

That sounds like a good idea, but I might be in and out of state. Plus, I need to get in shape to avoid my biggest problem. Weak achilles tendon. If you've ever blown one of those out, it makes any kind of jumping something you'd be afraid to do. I can get up there at the rim, but I'd be afraid it would snap.

Hey, I've never had issues with my achilles, just my ankle in general, but I hear ya'. I'm out for 6 months so this wouldn't be until mid next year (at least for me). Let's play it by ear but I thought I'd gauge people's interest now.

I ruptured my achilles about ten years ago. I'm 5'9" and used to be able to dunk a volleyball (couldn't palm the BB long enough) and after the recovery could run pretty much just as fast but never could get as high. Now, I'm luck to touch the net.

I get out once a week for a weekly run with some guys. Used to play 5-6 times a week (25-35), now after kids, that's it. Enjoy it while you can guys!!

Wow you must have been quite the athletic freak!

That sucks about the injury. [IMG] This whole aging thing happens to us all, but it's still fun to watch basketball and practice shooting. If you've been born with the touch, it never leaves you. That's the good thing.

Well, I use to be able to get half my hand over the rim (I'm 5'9" as well), but that was 40 pounds and 4 years ago. I enjoy playing basketball now more than before. I actually understand the game (sorta) and don't find myself forcing too many things. I am what you call, the ultimate team scrub.

I would love to join up with you guys, but I am in Dallas. When I was in the Air Force I would play at least 3xs per week, but now I am out and I cant find anyone who plays out here. I might try posting something similar in the Mavs forum. Thanks for the idea. I think it would be a great idea to match up faces with names and even playing ability.

numerous ankle injuries, my back giving out, and a love for the ganja has curtailed my bball playing. But if you can secure a gym(outside pounding on the knees) I would be interested. Can I wear my Dunleavy jersey?

I play but its all pickup games. Wow, alot of you guys have some nasty basketball related injuries, I guess they come with playing for so many years. I just got the worst ankle roll of my life last week, I dont think it was a light sprain but i didnt go to the doctors so i may never know. I've been resting it though and its close to being back to normal.

I'm definitely not very athletic and my role in every game i play is rebounding and passing (2 things no one does in pickup games) but the passing helps alot with my shooting. Defenders usually back off and make sure no one is open so that I have to shoot pretty wide open. I only play a few times a week on a good week.

You should get the ankle checked out or at least get crutches. X-rays might reveal something of Grant Hill type proportions, so you better be careful in how it heals... if it's bone related.

You should be okay though. I've never heard of any rolled ankle or sprain involving the actual bone unless it's totally dislocated. I'm just probably scaring you and since you feel almost back to normal, it's probably nothing.

Well right now its pretty good, a little stiff when I start walking after a long time of sitting but once it gets warmed up its alright. I've talked to a few people who have some medical experience and they said its probably a bad roll of the ankle. If it doesnt get any better I'll see a doctor though.

Just to recap what was done during my ankle surgery three weeks ago:

    -Removed bone spurs
    -Removed bone chips
    -Cleaned out damaged cartilidge <sp>
-Tightened ligaments (apparently they can do this)

This was from countless ankle sprains over the past 10+ years. It came to the point where my ankle would just be in too much pain to play and each time I would roll it, it would get worse and worse.

A few things I refuse to do:

    -Rebound in traffic
    -Follow my shot
-Try to be like Baron Davis

Run BJM - just do the ice/heat cycle...20 mins ice, 20 mins heat (starting and finishing with ice) and keep it elevated. You'll know when something is wrong later down the road.

I play but I'm way out in the East Bay and it would take about 2 hours to get there. I'm not that good either.

Good stuff Rudy. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy (I'm sure you never get sick of that one...)
I used to play 4-5 times a week, now all of my hoops buddies are slowly becoming volleyball guys, so it's tough to find a decent game where people aren't fighting every other game. I'm 5'7 with a pretty good shot, I subscribe to the Murphy, Dunleavy school of Defense, and occasionally have a great day passing. I'm really a converted Soccer-Tennis guy who was wayyy to small to play until my growth spurt my junior where I spurted from 5'2 105 to 5'6 135 in 1 year which left my knees and back in constant pain. (I'm not bitter). Anyway, I've watched the game through the eyes of a coach (my best friend's dad was the high school coach for years) since I was a kid. o even though I know what I should be doing and where to be on the court, I'm frequently too lazy to get there. So Essentially I'm a 5'7 chucking 2 guard who can't play defense (wonder why Stanford never came knocking) ha!

I'd love to play, although I'm way out in Sacramento at the moment. Our games sound pretty similar CohanHater, cept I can't shoot, but I do have a mean hook shot for a 5'7" guy. I'm one of those people who can't do, but can teach. It's like having the ball in my hands makes me go completely blank. Which is why I look at someone like Adonal or something and laugh because that's how I'd look out there, but even worse.

Nice game Rudy, maybe if we would all get together we could play like 5-1 against ya and see if we could pull out the win.
